The lone running back pledge in Georgia’s 2023 class just keeps raking in the accolades and honors. Roderick Robinson (Lincoln; San Diego, Calif.) was named as the California Player of the Year by MaxPreps.com on Tuesday after a standout senior season that saw him lead his team to a state championship.

Robinson carried 217 times this season for 2,378 yards and 37 touchdowns. He added 12 receptions for 128 yards and two more scores.

In a 33-28 win over NorCal powerhouse De La Salle (Concord) in the championship game, Robinson pounded out 218 yards and four touchdowns on 22 carries. A week earlier in a 37-14 win over Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth) in the Southern California 1-AA regional final, he had 16 carries for 181 yards and four touchdowns.

Earlier in the season, Robinson tied the San Diego Section record with eight rushing touchdowns in a 56-20 win over Mater Dei Catholic (Chula Vista). In that contest, he ran 32 times for 476 yards.

The latest in a long line of star running backs at Lincoln that includes Marcus Allen and Terrell Davis, Robinson committed to Georgia in October after previously casting his lot with UCLA.

Each state’s MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which will be released January 10. — MaxPreps.com

Per the On3 Consensus, the 6-foot-1 225-pound playmaker is the nation’s No. 165 overall prospect and No. 8 running back. He’s the No. 12 player in California. Robinson was committed to UCLA at one time but visited Georgia for the Tennessee game in early November. It didn’t take Robinson long to decide that he wanted to play college ball in the SEC, flipping his commitment just days later.

“I just loved everything they had going on at Georgia, from the brotherhood to the way the coaches interacted with all of the players,” Robinson told On3 Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons. “And then the education is what set it off for me. In the SEC, you’re playing at the highest level against the best competition, and I feel like that gets you ready for the NFL. The coaching staff was just so genuine and the players got along with the coaches so well. And the education is top in the country.”

“I was considering Georgia before I came on my visit, otherwise I wouldn’t have taken my official,” he addedd. “But if you asked me if I was going to flip the next day, I’m not sure. But the visit was great, overall I loved it, and I decided to flip. … It was after all my meetings with all the coaches. After talking with Coach Smart and Coach McGee, everyone was on the same page and had the same plans for me and my family. Georgia is always contending in the SEC, but they’re also always contending in the country. They have a long list of running backs in the NFL. Not just in the NFL but producing at high levels in the NFL.”
