Georgia coaches have spent the week on the road trying to lock down another elite recruiting haul for the 2023 cycle. One guy they don’t have to worry much about is Lakeland (Lakeland, Fla.) wide receiver Tyler Williams.

Not only is the 6-foot-3 200-pound pass catcher is not only locked in with his commitment to Georgia, but he took to Twitter on Friday to announce that he plans to be on campus in the very near future as an early enrollee.

Williams committed to Georgia in September and his recruitment has been shut down since. He’s now ranked as the No. 99 overall prospect and the No. 16 wide receiver prospect in the country per the On3 Consensus, which considers the ratings of three other outlets. Those rankings have him at No. 23 in Florida.

The On3 in-house rankings have a higher opinion of Williams. There he is ranked No. 54 overall, No. 7 at his position, and No. 12 in the Sunshine State.

“Former basketball-first athlete who blossomed as a wide receiver after transferring to powerhouse Lakeland High as a junior. Has a natural, well-rounded skill set at receiver. A big, fluid mover at around 6-foot-3, 200 pounds. Has plus length for the position with 33.5-inch arms. Draws on his basketball background to win at the catch point. High-points and attacks the ball in contested situations. Shows good lateral agility and spatial awareness as a runner after the catch. Continues to be a top basketball player, averaging over 15 points per game as a junior. Will need to continue progressing in the technical aspects of his game given his lack of football focus to this point.” — On3 Scouting

UGA’s 2023 class is currently ranked No. 2 nationally per the On3 Consensus. Alabama holds the No. 1 spot, a little over half a point ahead of the Bulldogs. Williams is one of four wide receivers in the class with each having a four-star rating.

Williams is the highest-rated of the bunch with Raymond Cottrell (Milton; Milton Fla.), Anthony Evans (Judson; Converse, Tex.) and Yazeed Haynes (North Penn; Lansdale, Pa.) being the other three. The On3 Consensus has Cottrell ranked No. 137 overall and No. 21 at his position. Evans stands at No. 210 overall and No. 27 at his position.

Haynes has turned in a strong senior season and is ranked No. 322 overall by the Consensus. The On3 in-house rankings have recently bumped him up to No. 127 overall and No. 20 at receiver.

The Bulldogs appear to be done at receiver in the 2023 class but they’re still going to be active in the transfer portal. With Williams probably being the most-game ready of the 2023 commitments, Georgia is wants to use the portal to add numbers, speed, and experience.

It has sent two offers out thus far. Those have gone to Mississippi State’s Rara Thomas and Kent State’s Dante Cephas. Any receiver the Bulldogs are able to add via the portal in the next few weeks will undoubtedly, like Williams, enroll early.
