Georgia Football releases details of championship celebration

LOS ANGELES — Georgia defeated TCU on Monday night for a second straight National Championship, and on Tuesday, UGA released details of its team celebration. Stadium gates open at noon with a 12:30 p.m. ET parade down Lumpkin Street to Sanford Stadium, the Dawg Walk at 1:00 and stadium celebration beginning at 2:00 p.m. ET. However, as the official release notes, there are a couple of differences from last year’s championship celebration.

“The University of Georgia will celebrate the Bulldogs going back-to-back to win the 2022 National Championship on Saturday, January 14 in a ceremony at Sanford Stadium … Due to ongoing construction on the South side of Sanford Stadium, there will be several changes from last year’s championship celebration:

  • Dawg Walk will begin at the Baxter Street extension and proceed thru the Tate Student Center Plaza.
  • Entry for this event will be through gates 1,2,3, 4, 4A and 5 only.
  • Seating in the stadium will be limited to the West, East, and North stands only, in addition to reserved seating on the field.

All tickets are complimentary and will be available to Hartman Fund season ticket holders, Faculty & Staff season ticket holder and students who received full or partial season ticket packages beginning January 10th at 9 a.m., by logging into their ticket account. Remaining tickets will be available to the general public beginning at 9 a.m. Thursday, January 12th via Georgiadogs.com. All regular gameday procedures will be followed with campus opening up to visitors on Saturday at 7 a.m. Parking will be available on a first-come-first-served basis throughout campus with the exception of Tate Center Deck, Reed Hall, Psychology-Journalism, Railroad, East Campus Road, Legion, and Stem Deck parking lots. Additional details will be forthcoming on GeorgiaDogs.com and via UGAAA social media channels. Fans wishing to get official Georgia Back-to-Back National Champions merchandise and memorabilia may visit the G Shop.”

Georgia’s win Monday night was one for the record books. The Bulldogs put up 65 points, tied for the most ever against an AP Top-5 opponent. The 58-point margin of victory was the largest in any bowl game all-time, as Georgia out-gained TCU by 401 yards, the largest margin in a BCS or College Football Playoff Championship Game.

Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett and defensive back Javon Bullard earned MVP honors on the night. Bennett threw for 304 yards on 18-of-25 passing with four touchdowns while also adding 39 yards and two touchdowns rushing. He was responsible for six touchdowns, tying Joe Burrow’s mark from the 2020 National Championship Game for the most-ever. Meanwhile, Bullard was a part of three turnovers with two interceptions.

The Bulldogs will return to Athens and are expected back in the Classic City on Tuesday night.
