The upsets we saw in week six of the College Football season have had the expected impact on the polls. The new US LBM / USA Today coaches poll is out and Georgia has moved up one spot to No. 4. The Bulldogs moved to 4-1 on the season with a 31-13 win over Auburn on Saturday. It’s the programs eighth straight win over its oldest rival.

Two of the teams in front of Georgia coming into the week, Alabama and Tennessee, fell behind Georgia as Oregon jumped over the Bulldogs. Texas sits in the No. 1 spot followed by Ohio State at No. 2 and the Ducks at No. 3. Penn State comes in at No. 5 followed by Miami, Alabama, Ole Miss, Tennessee, and LSU, in that order, to round out the top 10.

Clemson, the team Georgia beat 34-3 to open the season, is No. 11. The Crimson Tide, one week after beating Georgia 41-34 in Tuscaloosa, fell to Vanderbilt on Saturday in a stunning upset. The evening provided more drama as Tennessee, which is on UGA’s schedule in November, fell 19-14 at Arkansas. Miami almost kept it going with a close one at Cal but the Hurricanes overcame a 25-point deficit to beat the Bears.

Whether it’s the transfer portal, NIL, or both, the parity in College Football is undeniable right now. Kirby Smart has been hinting at it all season with a consistent message that every team on Georgia’s schedule, especially the SEC and Power 4 foes, have to be taken seriously.

“We beat a good team today,” Smart said after the game. “A resilient, tough, hard fought SEC win. They are hard to come by, and I think that’s a really good football team we just played. I said that all week, when they don’t turn the ball over, they’re hard to beat. They did not turn the ball over, they got physical back. They do a really good job defensively. So a lot of respect to those guys. I thought it was really hot today.”
