Ryan Montgomery‘s final season of high school ball is over soon after it started. The Findlay (Findlay, Ohio) High School product suffered a knee injury during his team’s 54-21 loss to Central Catholic on Friday. Montgomery confirmed today that the injury is a torn ACL and that he will miss the rest of his senior season.

“I am heartbroken to announce I will miss the rest of my senior football season with my teammates and coaches due to an ACL injury that requires surgery,” Montgomery said via Twitter. “To my teammates – enjoy every minute! Know that I will do whatever I can coaching wise to assist this season. To my coaches – thanks for everything you have done for me. Thanks to the entire Findlay community for all the support. God has a plan for me and I know he is just strengthening my faith. I am going to continue to just trust in the Lord as he will always have my back. I look forward to a full recovery and the next chapter of my life at the University of Georgia. Gods got me.”

Montgomery is a four-star prospect according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that includes all four sites that publish recruiting rankings. He’s the nation’s No. 110 overall prospect and the No. 9 quarterback. Montgomery is the No. 6 player in Ohio.

He gave his commitment to the Bulldogs in April after they made his offer committable. Florida and South Carolina were battling it out for Montgomery with the Gators having the upper hand. Georgia was in pursuit of Matt Zollers and JuJu Lewis before the former chose Missouri and the Bulldogs decided to move on from the latter in favor of Montgomery. Once the focus turned to him, it didn’t take long for him to choose UGA.

“This spring, I came down for a spring visit and I went in and told them my thoughts about the whole thing, and it was just ‘hey, this is where I want to be and I know I will thrive here,’” Montgomery said. “I know I have the mentality to play at a school like Georgia. I’m all about business. I don’t care about anything else but the football aspect of it. I think walking away from that visit, I could tell that I really kind of got into the heads of coach Bobo and coach Gummy specifically and I think they were a little surprised because I’d say it’s kind of rare for recruits to speak their minds about stuff like that. That kind of sparked something.”
