LIVE UPDATES: No. 1 Georgia 50, No. 14 LSU 30 -- FINAL
ATLANTA, Ga. — DawgsHQ has boots on the ground in Atlanta as No. 1 Georgia takes on No. 14 LSU in the 2022 SEC Championship Game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. It’s the fifth all time meeting between these two teams on this stage with three of the past four going the way of the Tigers including a 2019 win on their way to a National Championship. As for Georgia, the Bulldogs last won in 2017 but have had their fair share of success too, making it to Atlanta five times under Kirby Smart and taking home a National Championship of its own last season. This season Georgia is 12-0 after wrapping up a second-straight undefeated regular season last week against Georgia Tech. Meanwhile LSU is 9-3 and lost last week to Texas A&M.
“We’re on to LSU,” Georgia head coach Kirby Smart said on Monday. “We were able to get a start on these guys some yesterday. The NCAA rules afford us the opportunity on championship weeks to work a little bit on Sundays, so we were able to get at least a good jump start on them. Really more about putting the last game to bed for us, then as coaches preparing to get game plan ready to play a really talented team.”
“I’ve always had respect for Brian Kelly’s teams, going way back to when we played him at Notre Dame,” Smart continued. “They had very high quality preparation, coaching staff. They do a great job in all areas. He’s very organized. He has a process. He knows how to run a program … Their team’s very talented, and it should be a great matchup. I’ve always said this is an incredible atmosphere, as good an atmosphere as you’ll ever find in any sporting event, outside of just football, I’m talking about all sports. It’s a great venue, and the SEC office does a great job putting on a tremendous event. So our guys are looking forward to playing in it.”
Georgia enters as a heavy favorite over LSU with Vegas Insider’s Consensus spread siting the Bulldogs as 17.5-point favorites. That number has been as high as 21.5 and never lower than 14.5.

Pregame
- VIDEO Couple of thoughts from the field from Wes and Palmer
- Jalon Walker, a true freshman, is back working with the outside linebackers. He’s listed as an inside linebacker on Georgia’s depth chart but has been working on the outside quite a bit since the Nolan Smith injury. Walker was with the inside linebackers last week.
- Sophomore wide receiver AD Mitchell appears to be working in full during pregame warmup. He’s running routes, doing one-on-ones with the defensive backs, and 11-on-11 work. He have him listed as probably for the game.
- Freshman outside linebacker Marvin Jones Jr. will miss this game. He has a high-ankle sprain and is not dressed out. He’s wearing a walking boot on his left foot.
