ATHENS, Ga. — The Georgia Bulldogs are back between the hedges in 24 hours! For the first time in 2023, fans can suit up in their best red and black and head on out to Sanford Stadium to see their team in action. With back-to-back National Championships, there’s never been a more exciting time to be a Georgia Bulldog…

“We’ve had several practices since I saw you guys last. They guys are pushing each other, challenging each other to get better,” Georgia head coach Kirby Smart said in his last meeting with media members on Saturday, a week ahead of the G-Day spring game. “I think we have two segments of our team. We have a segment of our team that is within its first year of being here. That includes this year’s midyears and last year’s midyears and summer enrollees. That is almost 50 percent of our team and then we have another 50 percent that has been here for two or greater years. They are in two distinctly two different spots. Our job is to try to accelerate the learning process for the first. Younger group and continue the learning process and to push, to create depth out of our older half. I’m pleased with the work we’ve done this Spring, but I’m not pleased with where we are. We need to continue to grow and get better.”

Georgia has several position battles worth watching on Saturday, none bigger than the one between the quarterbacks. Carson Beck, Brock Vandagriff and Gunner Stockton are competing for the starting job under center, and for them, the spring game represents an opportunity to get game-like reps. Meanwhile, on the defensive side of the football, the Bulldogs are replacing a pair of players in the secondary with cornerbacks Daylen Everette, Nyland Green and Julian Humphrey pushing for playing time there along with an opening at safety.

That’s far from all though. Saturday’s action will give folks an opportunity to see their favorite returnees like Brock Bowers, Ladd McConkey, Smael Mondon and Malaki Starks in action along with newcomers including a trio of transfers and 18 early enrollees!
