The first week of Georgia spring practice is over. The Bulldogs capped off the first week by taking things to another level. After initially planning to not go full pads until sometime during week two, they put on all the gear for Saturday’s workout.

The practice was closed to media and there was no media availability afterward but we did get a glimpse with a 21-second video released via social media.

The video provides a look at Mackey Award winning tight end Brock Bowers, who is fully healthy after missing last spring due to shoulder surgery. We also get a look at freshman tight end Lawson Luckie, a UGA legacy, and bruising tailback Branson Robinson. The video also provides a glimpse of the defensive line and third-year Bulldog Jonathan Jefferson.

Kirby Smart after the first day of Georgia spring practice…

The Bulldog head man has only spoken to reporters once since spring drills began. That came on Wednesday at UGA Pro Day.

“Excited about it,” Smart said on March 15. “We had really good energy, enthusiasm. A little windy, so we probably didn’t have the day you’d like that have as far as passing the football. But with 25 mile-an-hour gusts, that probably had a big part in that. I expect those guys to bounce back on that side. We didn’t have pads on so it’s hard to evaluate that but I did enjoy the energy and enthusiasm the guys had competing against each other.”

Next up for the Bulldogs…

Georgia will practice three more times this week. It will go on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. As of right now, Smart is not scheduled to speak with reporters this week and, once again, Saturday’s practice will be fully closed.

This week is expected to be the final week of spring drills without a scrimmage at the end. Starting next week, Georgia will practice on Tuesday and Thursday before scrimmaging on Saturday.

The annual G-Day Spring Scrimmage is set for Saturday, April 15 at 4 p.m. ET. The game will be televised by ESPN2.
