University of Georgia releases statement on how it handles assault allegations
Earlier this week DawgsHQ provided full details from a police report involving Georgia freshman defensive lineman Jamaal Jarrett. After posting the report on Thursday afternoon, DawgsHQ reached out to the University of Georgia for comment on how it handles such allegations. The school responded with comment on Saturday.
“Our program has acted decisively in every criminal investigation of a football player regarding sexual/physical assault allegations. We have no tolerance for such misconduct,” Georgia said in the statement.
“We have a clear record and the suggestion that our program ignores reports or rewards bad behavior is wrong. In fact, just the opposite is true — we consistently educate with a goal of prevention, we take action when necessary, and we will continue to take action, as appropriate.”
When the 6-foot-6 350-pound Jarrett took an official to UGA last June and was accused of sexual assault after a scheduled encounter on Friday night/Saturday morning.
Jarrett, 16 years old at the time, and his mother hit pause on his official visit on Saturday to cooperate with the Athens-Clarke County Police Department’s investigation. He underwent an interview that lasted nearly an hour and submitted his cell phone for forensic examination.
