News of what Georgia’s 2024 schedule will look like is starting to trickle out ahead of the SEC’s announcement on Wednesday night. DawgsHQ has confirmed that the Bulldogs will travel to Tuscaloosa to take on Alabama. BamaOnline’s Charlie Potter was the first to report.

The date is not yet know and it won’t be announced when the league makes 2024 league opponents known later in the day.

News has already came down that Georgia will travel to Austin to take on Texas in the Longhorns’ first season in the league. The Bulldogs had Texas on the schedule for the 2028 and 2029 seasons for a home-and-home series but that series will not take place now that both teams will be in the same league.

The trip to Tuscaloosa will be Georgia’s second in five years while Alabama hasn’t been to Athens since 2015. Georgia last played in Bryant-Denny Stadium in October of 2020, a season altered by COVID-19.

In Stetson Bennett‘s third career start, the Bulldogs led the Crimson Tide 24-20 at the half but it was all Alabama in the final two quarters. Georgia was blanked in the second half while Alabama scored 21 unanswered to win 41-20. Nick Saban and company went on to drub Ohio State in the National Championship game and Alabama wideout Devonta Smith took home the Heisman Trophy.

The 2020 matchup at Alabama was the first game played there between the two teams since 2007. That on resulted in a 26-23 Georgia win in overtime when Matthew Stafford hit Mikey Henderson for a 25-yard touchdown.

Alabama last came to Athens in 2015, a game it won going away en route to a National Championship. Prior to that game the Crimson Tide had last been to Athens in 2008, Saban’s second season with the program. Alabama jumped out to a big lead in that one as well and coasted to a resounding victory and an undefeated regular season.

The two teams have matched up either in the SEC Championship game of the National Championship game five times since 2012. Alabama has won all three SEC Championship matchups and the 2017 National Championship game. Georgia got the better of the Crimson Tide in the 2021 National Championship game in Indianapolis.
