Georgia football uniforms: the Best Dawgs looks of all time
The scuttlebutt over some Georgia football uniforms and numbers on the jerseys may seem trivial to some.
But to a not-very-small portion (or a not-very-quiet portion, who’s to know?) of the Georgia Bulldogs fan base, the shape of Georgia’s numbers was a big deal.
It’s all in the details and aesthetics.
Some fans weren’t crazy about the “Bulldog Bold” rebrand in 2013. They preferred the traditional block style of numbers used since Georgia started playing football in the 1800’s.
It’s a classy look. I get it.
I leaned toward that camp, but didn’t care too much about what the numbers looked like, as long as the Dawgs were winning.
They won a National Championship in Bulldog Bold, after all.
Now, Georgia fans are more willing to spend a few extra bucks on some merchandise.
And, ‘voila,’ Georgia now has “new” jerseys to sell in the team store again.
It’s just a brilliant move in so many ways.
In the spirit of old being new again, here are my five favorite looks from Georgia football uniforms in the Bulldogs’ history.
5. Georgia football uniforms briefly include a red Georgia ‘G’ logo on a silver helmet
This one doesn’t show up too much, so good luck finding a photo of the full uniform in color.
But if Georgia ever did a throwback to honor the victory of Wally Butts over the Saturday Evening Post, they could break out some plain red jerseys, these silver helmets and the thin, but powerful red Georgia ‘G’ logo.
Most of the season was underwhelming for the 1962 Dawgs, who finished 3-4-3, including that scandalous 35-0 loss at Legion Field against Alabama.
They didn’t wear these helmets for all of the games – they mostly wore plain silver helmets.
Maybe they should have dabbled in that red ‘G’ a little more.
4. “Bulldog Bold” wasn’t a favorite, but it’s the Georgia Bulldogs jersey that won a National Championship
No matter the shape of the numbers, black numbers on white with a red outline will always be distinctively Georgia.
I’ll admit I wasn’t crazy about the rebrand at first in 2013.
But these jerseys did grow on me. I’ll always think about those drought-busting National Champs when I see these now.
3. 1980 / tributes with away red pants
Speaking of National Champs, how about those red pants that the Dawgs wore in the 80’s?
I couldn’t have been a bigger fan of the tribute look worn against Arkansas in 2020.
Hopefully, Georgia finds an excuse to break these back out soon.
2. Shadow block numbers / silver britches
This is the only look Georgia is yet to bring back in throwback fashion.
UNC did something similar last season.
It doesn’t get much cleaner than this.

1. The old faithful block numbers. Welcome back.
I don’t have anything else to add. Other than, I hope they actually wear the black ones at some point.
How about David Pollack’s portal acting skills, by the way? This is great content.
Just glad they’re back.
