It’s time for the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry – no, still not in November and trust me, we’re upset too – as No. 2 Georgia (5-0, 2-0 SEC) hosts Auburn (3-2, 1-1 SEC) Saturday between the hedges of Sanford Stadium in Athens, Ga. The Bulldogs and Tigers are coming into this one on opposite ends of the spectrum. Georgia defeated Missouri last week by using a fourth-quarter comeback to leave Columbia with a win. Meanwhile, Auburn lost 21-17 to LSU at home after leading 17-0.

“ I will open with the tradition and history of this game is pretty incredible. I think when you talk about one of the oldest rivalries in college football, it’s always been a game that I know, as a player, I looked forward to playing in,” Georgia head coach Kirby Smart said about Auburn ahead of the matchup. “It’s been some tremendous games between the two teams, and our guys are looking forward to getting to play at home in front of a raucous crowd, great atmosphere. I’m expecting our fans to turn out and give us an electric atmosphere to play in against a good Auburn football team.”

All time, Georgia holds the lead in this series. While the Tigers won the first meeting back in 1892, the Bulldogs have won the last five, dating back to the 2017 SEC Championship Game, to give them a 62-56-8 advantage. Last year, Georgia won what was a top-25 matchup at the Tiger on The Plains 34-10. The Bulldogs have won the last seven games in Athens and 14 of the last 17 overall. Needless to say, they’ve taken a hold of this series and Kirby Smart and company will look to continue that this week.

They’ll also be looking to get back on track as the last two games have been less than stellar. Coming in as 40+ point favorites over Kent State, the Golden Flashes had an opportunity to make it a one-score game in the fourth quarter. And as was said before, it took a fourth quarter comeback to beat Missouri on the road last week as nearly 30-point favorites. Georgia has turned the ball over five times in the two wins after not doing so at all in the first three games and has given up 22 points in each outing after allowing just a combined 10 to Oregon, Samford and South Carolina.
