LIVEUPDATES_UGA

ATHENS, Ga. — It’s the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry on deck for Georgia as the Bulldogs try to bounce back from their first regular season loss since the 2020 season. UGA takes on Auburn in its return to Sanford Stadium today, this year’s homecoming game.

“I think we have a very set routine here, and we don’t make our routine based on outcomes. So whatever number of wins we’ve had prior to this one, we did the same thing we’re going to do today,” Georgia head coach Kirby Smart said. “I really believe in that process. I believe in, you know, telling the truth about the opponent, telling the strengths and weaknesses of who you’re about to play, and that you coach every week.”

“Got started on Auburn on Sunday. They’ve got a really good football team,” he added. “I’ve got a lot of respect for Hugh. I’ve gone against him for a lot of years. Obviously the record may not indicate, but the record doesn’t speak for what this team is. But they’ve got a really good football team, and today we start on them.”

The Bulldogs and Tigers first met in 1892 in a series accurately known as the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry with Georgia holding an all-time advantage of 64-56-8. Last season, Auburn gave UGA one of its toughest battles, pushing the Bulldogs to the brink of an upset before Brock Bowers took over in the fourth quarter. A touchdown with 2:52 to go put Georgia ahead 27-20, the final score after a stop by the Bulldog defense.

Georgia is a 21-point favorite according to VegasInsider this morning. UGA is looking to extend a win streak in the rivalry to eight, avoiding Auburn’s first win in Athens since 2005 in the process.

Fourth Quarter

*** Carson Beck kneels down and Georgia wins this one. (UGA 31-13 FINAL)
*** Thorne throws incomplete and Auburn turns it over on downs. Georgia will be able to run out the clock on this one.
*** Auburn into Georgia territory with a couple of 20+ yard completions for Payton Thorne. Timeout Georgia with 1:25 to go.

*** Peyton Woodring makes from 47 yards out (UGA 31-13 1:50 4Q)
*** Trevor Etienne carries for 7 yards and Auburn uses a timeout to stop the clock. That’s the second of the half for the Tigers.
*** Two minute timeout is upon us with Georgia having a long way to go for the conversion.
*** Georgia called for a pair of personal foul penalties, both of which will count considering one was after the play. Instead of an 11-yard gain by Frazier to the AUB 12, it’ll be 1st & 40 from the UGA 47.
*** Nate Frazier follows that up with a 17-yard run.
*** Carson Beck delivers one over the middle to London Humphreys for a gain of 25 yards to the Auburn 40.
*** Timeout Auburn, first of the half, after a no-gain rush by Branson Robinson. (UGA 28-13 4:56 4Q)
*** Georgia takes the field and goes for it on fourth. Trevor Etienne rushes up the middle for the necessary yardage. Fresh set of downs with under 5:00 to go.
*** Anthony Evans called for a penalty to get the drive underway. Bulldogs gain combined nine yards on next two plays but come up short of the line to gain on third down.

*** Georgia gets off the field in the goal-to-go situation. Auburn, down 18, decides to kick it and make it a two-score game. 26-yard field goal by Towns McGough is good. (UGA 28-13 7:38 4Q)
*** Another penalty on Chambliss makes it 1st & Goal. 15 yards for hands to the face.
*** Injury update from the press box: Christen Miller is out for the game with knee injury.
*** Chaz Chambliss called for a targeting penalty. He came flying in late on a second down stop. Call gets overturned and he’ll stay in the game.
*** Thorne finds KeAndre Lambert-Smith on 4ht and 8 for a 13-yard pickup to keep the drive alive.
*** Auburn picks up back to back first downs. Payton Thorne finds Jeremiah Cobb for a gain of 16 yards before the Tigers get 15 free ones on a pass interference penalty.

*** Touchdown Georgia. After Nate Frazier gets the Bulldogs closer, Carson Beck completes to Dillon Bell in the end zone for the score. (UGA 28-10 12:34 4Q)
*** Back to back completions, plus an Auburn penalty, give it to Georgia on the AUB5. Carson Beck found Dominic Lovett for 13 yards and Cash Jones for 17. He’s also hit low on the throw to Jones to add an extra 15 on.
*** Payton Thorne keeps on 4th & 1 and is taken down for a loss of yardage as Georgia defends it well. Raylen Wilson and Jalon Walker there to make the play. Bulldogs take over on downs at the AUB 40.

Third Quarter

*** Third quarter comes to a close after a Payton Thorne completion to Malcom Simmons short of the line to gain. Will be 4th & 1 from the AUB 44 when play resumes. (UGA 21-10 END 3Q)
*** Chaz Chambliss comes up with the sack. Timeout on the field for an injured Auburn player.
*** Thorne running around and extending plays. He’s got the Tigers out to the 35 with a pair of first downs.
*** Luke Deal called for a block in the back on the kickoff to give it to Auburn at the 5 to start the drive.

*** Call on the field stands. Second touchdown of the day for Etienne. Peyton Woodring PAT is good. (UGA 21-10 3:50 3Q)
*** Georgia gets stuffed on two straight plays. Etienne punches it in from 1 yard out. Conflicting signals from the referees on opposite sides. Called a touchdown but they’ll review.
*** Trevor Etienne rushes for 21 yards to the Auburn 2. Carried a couple of Tiger defenders with him.
*** Beck looks downfield on 3rd and 6 and finds Colbie Young for a contested catch. Play picked up 27.
*** Carson Beck sneaks it on 4th and short to keep the drive alive at the UGA 46.
*** Nate Frazier carries on the first play of the drive for a gain of 11. Quickness of the freshman on display.

*** Joenel Aguero misses the tackle and it’s off to the races for Jarquez Hunter. 38 yard touchdown makes it a one-score game. (UGA 14-10 9:45 3Q)
*** Thorne keeps for another first down. Tigers past midfield.
*** Payton Thorne got free after Georgia missed tackles on him twice and he’s brought down short of the line to gain by Julian Humphrey.
*** Georgia goes three-and-out after receiving the opening kickoff the of the half. Second half is underway. Auburn offense will get a crack at it from the UGA 32 after Brett Thorson’s punt.

Second Quarter

*** Dan Jackson blocks the 54-yard attempt from Towns McGough. Georgia goes into the locker room with the lead. (UGA 14-3 HALF)
*** Thorne completes short and the Tigers call their final timeout. Auburn will attempt a long field goal.
*** Georgia called for a facemask on the kickoff. Payton Thorne then completes for a gain of 15 yards to the UGA 45. Auburn calls timeout, second of the half, with 5 seconds to go before the break.

*** Carson Beck completes to Dominic Lovett for an 11-yard touchdown. Looked like it was intended for Dillon Bell, but it goes over his head into the hands of Lovett. Touchdown either way. (UGA 14-3 0:17 2Q)
*** Etienne converts coming out of the timeout with a 23-yard rush to the AUB17.
*** After review, Etienne is ruled short and Georgia calls a timeout. 39 seconds, 3rd & 1 on the AUB 40.
*** A UGA first down is under review. 31 seconds showing on the stadium game clock. Kirby Smart would’ve called a timeout had Etienne been ruled short.
*** Georgia takes over just past midfield after the punt with 1:02 to go.

View All

*** Thorne takes a shot and it falls incomplete. Hunter carries and is brought down short of the line to gain. Timeout Georgia, first of the half. Auburn will punt with 1:10 to go.
*** Auburn flinches before the snap which will make it second down from the AUB4. Georgia declines the 10-second run off and instead will have the game clock start at 1:20 on the snap. Big break for the Bulldogs.
*** First down rush by Jarquez Hunter picks up 5. Injured Auburn player on the play is Luke Deal. He walks off but not without a 10-second runoff penalty. 1:23 to go with 25 seconds on the play clock. Auburn likely to run it under a minute before taking its next snap. Georgia has all three timeouts remaining.

*** Georgia lines up to go for it and takes the delay of game trying to draw Auburn offsides. Instead of calling the timeout and attempting the 55-yarder, Bulldogs bring Brett Thorson on to punt. Downed at the 3-yard line with 1:52 to go in the first half.
*** Etienne rushed up the middle for a gain of 15 but it’s going to be brought back after a holding penalty. That makes it 3rd and 9, and Beck is sacked. Georgia runs the clock to the two-minute timeout. Would be a 55-yarder for Peyton Woodring if Kirby Smart calls for the kick on 4th and 13 from the UGA 38.
*** Nice progression by Beck as he finds Etienne out of the backfield.
*** Branson Robinson gets in on the action as he carries for gains of 3, 6 and 2 to move the chains. Georgia ball at the Auburn 35.
*** Georgia picks up 24 yards in two plays as the Bulldogs get the ball in the hands of Dominic Lovett and Dillon Bell. UGA ball in Auburn territory.
*** Trevor Etienne carries for 10 yards and a first down after the deep ball incompletion.
*** Georgia comes out and takes a shot downfield on the first play from scrimmage. Looked like Arian Smith ran the wrong route or something because Beck’s ball falls nowhere close any UGA pass catcher.

*** Auburn’s second third down attempt of the drive is made longer by a false yard penalty. Tigers come up short and bring on the punt team.
*** Payton Thorne completes to Rivaldo Fairweather along the Auburn sideline to move the chains on third down for the third time today (five attempts). That was close and the Tigers go quickly as a result.
*** Freshman linebacker Chris Cole getting action on third down in the absence of Smael Mondon. He was out there earlier as well.
*** Damari Alston gains 11 yards to open the drive. Shoestring tackle by Malaki Starks prevents the play from picking up more yardage.

*** Beck brought down for a sack on 3rd and 4. 12-yard loss back across midfield and the punt team is coming on for UGA. That followed a nice first down run by Trevor Etienne and a rush for no gain on second down by Branson Robinson.
*** Carson Beck completes to Colbie Young for a gain of 17 to get the quarter underway.

First Quarter

*** Georgia moves the chains with a run by Etienne and a Beck completion to Dillon Bell. That’ll make it 1st & 10 Bulldogs from their own 34 when play resumes. (UGA 7-3 END 1Q)

*** 27-yard field goal by Towns McGough is good (UGA 7-3 0:56 1Q)
*** Designed QB run for Payton Thorne on 3rd & 6. Looked like he was trying to potentially set up a 4th & short. Instead, he’s brought down for a loss by Mykel Williams.
*** Auburn moves the chains after a very friendly spot. Payton Thorne found Lamber-Smith again. Then, Jarquez Hunter follows it up with a 19-yard rush to the UGA 12. Well blocked as Hunter almost took it to the house.
*** Timeout Auburn – first of the day for the Tigers (UGA 7-0 3:41 1Q)
*** Another sack for Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins. That’s his second of the day and his seventh TFL for the season. Last year’s TFL leader Tykee Smith had 8.5 (second place Mykel Williams had 6.5).
*** Payton Thorne completes to KeAndre Smith-Lambert for a pickup of 23 on 3rd and 3. Daniel Harris was in coverage and came up for no apparent reason. Leaves Dan Jackson to make the stop.

*** Next play, Etienne punches it in from 2 yards out. Dawgs go 75 yards in 11 plays taking 4:58 off the clock. First first quarter points of the season against an FBS opponent and just the second first-half touchdown in those three games as well. (UGA 7-0 6:24 1Q)
*** Beck has found Trevor Etienne out of the backfield twice. Both of those move the chains with the second one getting UGA down to the AUB2.
*** Another third down conversion, this time a gain of 33 yards in the process. Carson Beck finds Lawson Luckie across the middle quickly and the tight end takes off for yards after the catch. Georgia ball at the Auburn 24.
*** Georgia picks up the first down thanks to an illegal substitution by Auburn. Too many men on the field. First third down and it’s a conversion.
*** Drew Bobo gets the start for Georgia at center.

*** Three plays later and Auburn is forced to punt. No gain rush and incompletion on the first two plays. Jalon Walker chases Payton Thorne out of bound on third down after a gain of just 3 yards, well short of the line to gain.
*** Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins comes up with a sack on first play from scrimmage. After a short gain, Auburn converts on 3rd and 12 with a completion and run to Damari Alston.

Pregame

*** Georgia wins the toss and defers its decision. Auburn will receive to begin the game as the Bulldogs kick right to left on your screen.
*** Captains for Georgia: Earnest Greene, CJ Allen, Dillon Bell, Dan Jackson

*** Jordan Hall just took his gloves off and did not do a o-line/d-line one on one. Looking like his game-time decision has been made and not in a way that has him seeing the field today.
*** Wilson just announced as the starting center on the video board but it’s been Bobo with the first team all throughout warmups. Auburn High School graduate and one time Tiger commit could make his first career start today.
*** Defensive lineman Nasir Johnson not dressed out. He’s not listed on the injury report but got hurt against Tennessee Tech (last home game) and did not make either of the last two travel rosters.
*** Drew Bobo getting snaps with the first team while Jared Wilson is working with the twos. Keep in mind, Wilson is listed as a game time decision. He looked to hurt his lower leg in some capacity last week but returned to the game.
*** Georgia’s taken the field. Among the players not dressed out there is good news: Tate Ratledge, Roderick Robinson and Kris Jones all off of scooters. Have not seen Smael Mondon but am keeping an eye out for him to see if there’s any indication on what his injury is.
*** SEC posted its pregame availability report and six players are listed for Georgia: Roderick Robinson (out), Smael Mondon (out), Tate Ratledge (out), Jordan Hall (game time decision), Mykel Williams (game time decision), Jared Wilson (game time decision). Notably, wide receivers Sacovie White and London Humphreys are not listed meaning they should be good to go. Will keep an eye out for them in pregame. Pretty incredible to see Humphreys go from out (Wednesday) to available in a matter of days.
