ATHENS, Ga. — The sun is down in the Classic City, and it’s time for some Georgia Football. Kirby Smart’s second-ranked squad takes on No. 9 Ole Miss in a top-10 matchup between the Bulldogs and Rebels.

Georgia and Ole Miss have played 46 times total in program histories, but it’s been since 2016 that they’ve matched up. That was in Kirby Smart’s first season as a head coach, and the Rebels came out on top 45-14 in Oxford after jumping out to a 45-0 lead to embarrass the 11th-ranked Bulldogs. Smart will look for his first win over Ole Miss, the only SEC team he hasn’t defeated in eight seasons, today.

“Moving to Ole Miss, they’ve got a really good football team. They’ve improved. You watch them on tape, and you watch the games throughout the year, they’ve improved with every game,” Georgia head coach Kirby Smart said of Ole Miss in his opening comments during his weekly Monday press conference. “They’ve played a tremendous schedule, some really tough teams they’ve played on their schedule. Lane does a great job with his program, with his team. They’ve got a great staff. They got really good players. He’s done an incredible job.”

The Rebels enter Athens 8-1 off of a win over Texas A&M this past Saturday. Their only loss came at the hands of Alabama in September, and a shot at the College Football Playoff – while slim – is still alive. Meanwhile, Georgia controls its own destiny with a sixth trip to the SEC Championship Game in seven seasons looking likely, and potentially clinched by the time today’s game kicks off.

Kickoff time for tonight’s game is set for 7:00 p.m. ET on ESPN. Chris Fowler, Kirk Herbstreit and Holly Rowe will be on the call in the network’s game of the week. ESPN’s premier pregame show, College GameDay, was also in town to preview the day of action around the country.

Pregame

  • SEC East has been clinched for Georgia with the result of Missouri-Tennessee. Bulldogs will take on Alabama after the Crimson Tide defeated Kentucky earlier today.
  • Probable starting lineups include both Amarius Mims and Brock Bowers on offense. CJ Allen on defense for injured Jamon Dumas-Johnson at inside linebacker.
  • Xavian Sorey back and going through warm ups with the inside linebackers after missing last week’s game.
  • Bowers and the Bulldogs have emerged for pregame warmups and the star tight end is indeed in uniform.
  • LOUD boos from the Georgia student section for the Ole Miss specialists as they come out for warmups.
  • Bowers has not looked limited one bit in this round of warmups. Even did some jumping back and forth across one of the yard lines on his injured leg.
  • Brock Bowers has emerged from the tunnel to go through initial warm ups with the tight ends. Kirby Smart has called him a game-time decision this week. Read into it what you want, but he’s the first in line.
  • Georgia players starting to take the field for first round of warm ups. Wide receiver CJ Smith in sweats as he watches the rest of the position group go through drills.
