LIVE UPDATES: No. 16 Ole Miss 28, No. 3 Georgia 10 - FINAL
OXFORD, Miss. — It’s a top-20 matchup between Georgia and Ole Miss today in Oxford with major College Football Playoff implications on the line. The Bulldogs enter the Magnolia State at 7-1 (5-1 SEC), well positioned for a spot in the Playoff as the nation’s third-ranked, second-seeded team currently. Meanwhile for the Rebels, it’s do or die time with two losses to their name and not much room for error.
“We’re excited about this opportunity to play in another road big game. Ole Miss has got a tremendous team. Lane (Kiffin)’s done an incredible job of getting talented players, big, physical,” Georgia head coach Kirby Smart said. “The improvement on defense for them is extremely noticeable. These guys are disruptive, powerful, fast, tons of sacks, tons of tackles for loss. I think Jaxson Dart is playing (like) probably one of the best quarterbacks playing in the country in terms of explosive plays. A lot of respect for how he competes. I mean, the guy runs extremely physical, like a SEC running back. He doesn’t try to avoid contact — he actually seeks it. You can tell he’s got a fiery, competitive attitude, just like his coach does, just like Lane does. So they have a lot of the same personality traits.
“Tremendous team that really should probably be undefeated. At the end of the day, they’ve had two really, really close games, both games that they could have easily won. So great challenge ahead, and our team’s looking forward to it.”

Georgia and Ole Miss played last season in Athens, and they’ll meet in the Classic City again next year. Last time they played in Oxford was Kirby Smart’s first season, 2016, when Hugh Freeze handed Smart his first career loss. However, all-time, Georgia owns the advantage including a dominant win last year. On the back of Kendall Milton and Daijun Edwards, the Bulldogs rushed for 300 yards while Carson Beck threw for another 306 in a 52-17 win.

OLE MISS 25, GEORGIA 10 – 3:22 4Q
Ole Miss on the move…
11/09/2024 05:38:12 PMJaxson Dart found Jordan Watkins for a gain of 19 out to near midfield. Then, two plays later he took matters into his own hands with a 28 yard scramble. Rebels have it in goal-to-go as Georgia calls its first timeout. 3:38 remaining, but the Bulldogs hopes are looking quite slim now, down 12 and Ole Miss being on its way to another score.
Interception Ole Miss…
11/09/2024 05:31:53 PMCarson Beck hit as he throws on 4th & 10, and it’s intercepted by John Saunders. His first interception of the day, and the Bulldogs very much have their backs against a wall in this one with 7:22 to go, down two touchdowns.
Costly Mistake for Ole Miss…
11/09/2024 05:24:32 PMOn 3rd & 3, Carson Beck was sacked. He fumbled – second of the drive for the Bulldogs – and the play was bound for big time lost yardage. However, Cash Jones has his facemask grabbed and Georgia will get a fresh set of downs in Ole Miss territory as a result.
UPDATE: Georgia converts another 3rd & 3, completing to Dominic Lovett across the middle for a gain of 11 to the Ole Miss 27.
END 3Q: Ole Miss 22, Georgia 10
11/09/2024 05:12:01 PMBulldogs have it and moved the chains on third and short as Carson Beck executed the QB sneak. Will be Georgia ball at its 21 when play resumes with 15:00 remaining.
Defense Does Its Job…
11/09/2024 05:09:54 PMJaxson Dart and the Rebels moved the chains once, doing so with a Dart scramble for 21 yards, but UGA gets the stop. Pressure on third down by CJ Allen. Bulldogs take over at their 9 yard line in desperate need of something to go their way.
Frazier Fumbles, Ole Miss Takes Over
11/09/2024 05:02:40 PMGeorgia had some momentum offensively, moving it into Ole Miss territory with an excellent progression, read and throw by Carson Beck to Dominic Lovett, but two plays later, a completion to Nate Frazier turns into a fumble. Ole Miss recovers and takes over at their 29.
Rebels Respond…
11/09/2024 04:59:19 PMGeorgia made it a one-score game, but Jaxson Dart and the Rebels have responded. Cayden Lee was on the receiving end of plays that went for 23 and 26 yards before on 3rd & 6 from the UGA 10, Dart found Juice Wells in the back of the end zone. Ole Miss went for two and didn’t get it, but we’ve got a two-score game on our hands once again – this time, a two-touchdown game.
OLE MISS 22, GEORGIA 10 – 6:10 3Q
Georgia Has Goal to Go…

Second Half Getting Started…
11/09/2024 04:37:48 PMGeorgia to start with it at the 25 yard line after a touchback.
HALF: Ole Miss 16, Georgia 7
11/09/2024 04:15:15 PMDefensive breakdowns in the secondary have allowed Ole Miss receivers to run open, and the Georgia offensive line has struggled against a really talented unit. Rebels doing an excellent job stopping the run and forcing UGA into passing situations. That’s led to some sacks and solid field position, but outside of one instance, the Bulldogs have held for field goals.
Georgia will receive it after the half…
Headed to the Half…
11/09/2024 04:59:07 PMGeorgia was making noise just before the 2:00 timeout but gets shut down coming out of it. A second down drop by Ben Yurosek prevented a big play. Then it was a sack on third down that ended the offensive attack. However, the Bulldogs get off the field in three plays. Carson Beck will take a knee and we’re headed to the locker room…
Ole Miss Extends Advantage to Two Scores…
11/09/2024 04:59:28 PMOle Miss was backed up to its goal line, and gets off of it and into Georgia territory in a heartbeat thanks to a pair of completions to Jordan Watkins. He picked up 16 on 3rd & 10 before 33 on the next play. Rebels forced to settle for another field goal, and Caden Davis hits again, this time from 53.
OLE MISS 16, GEORGIA 7 – 2:55 2Q
Field Position Flipped…
11/09/2024 04:59:32 PMGeorgia picks up three first downs but can’t do much with it. UGA struggling with the Ole Miss pass rush some against an elite defensive line. Allowed a sack and some pressure on that drive. Brett Thorson punt goes out of bounds perfectly at the 1-yard line where the Rebels will take over.
Caden Davis Good Again…
11/09/2024 03:37:29 PMThat’s three straight Ole Miss drives that end in points. Lucky for Georgia, the most recent two of those have been field goals. Sparked by a 7-yard tackle for loss by Jalon Walker, the Dawgs get off the field only allowing three and keeping it to a one-score game.
OLE MISS 13, GEORGIA 7 – 12:12 2Q
END 1Q: Ole Miss 10, Georgia 7
11/09/2024 03:28:53 PMOle Miss is on the move again with Ulysses Bentley combining for 45 yards in three plays. That included a 31-yard completion to the UGA 39 where Bentley was wide open in the middle of the field. Will be Ole Miss ball from the UGA 32 facing 2nd & 3 when play resumes.
Big Plays Help Give Ole Miss the Lead…
11/09/2024 04:59:37 PMA pair of completions by Jaxson Dart on the first two plays get Ole Miss into the red zone quickly. Both went for 10+ yards, the seven such play already. However, once there, nothing doing for the Rebels and UGA holds for a field goal.
OLE MISS 10, GEORGIA 7 – 3:01 1Q
Georgia Goes Three-and-Out…
11/09/2024 04:59:43 PMWasn’t a great drive there for the Bulldogs with a penalty, and a tackle for loss. It leads to a three-and-out and a Brett Thorson punt. Ole Miss starts its drive at midfield after the TV timeout. Jaxson Dart warming up beside the Rebels huddle looking like he’ll return.
Rebels Score Led By Simmons…
11/09/2024 04:59:46 PMOle Miss responds to the Georgia score with a touchdown drive led by Austin Simmons and capped off by Ulysses Bentley. Simmons completed 5 of 6 for 64 yards including a 4th down conversion before Bentley punched it in from 9 yards out.
GEORGIA 7, OLE MISS 7 – 6:53 1Q
Ole Miss Converts on 4th Down…
11/09/2024 04:59:54 PMOle Miss is in Georgia territory at the 22 after a 4th & 1 completion to Cayden Lee. Simmons has entered and completed three passes, all for 11 or more. That being said, on the Ole Miss sideline the buzz is Jaxson Dart returning from the locker room.
Jaxson Dart Injury
11/09/2024 04:59:51 PMThe Ole Miss star quarterback has headed to the locker room with an ankle injury. Austin Simmons in to replace him for the time being. A left-handed redshirt freshman out of Miami.
Dawgs Strike First…
11/09/2024 02:57:16 PMRunning the ball on the first five plays of the drive, Georgia found itself in goal-to-go. After Trevor Etienne was stopped short of the goal line on third down, UGA went for it on 4th & Goal, punching it in on a toss sweep to the right for Nate Frazier. Bulldogs take advantage of the turnover and short field…
GEORGIA 7, OLE MISS 0 – 10:32 1Q
Interception Georgia!
11/09/2024 02:52:18 PMAfter Georgia did a good job of keeping Jaxson Dart in check on the first two plays, sacking him on the second, the Ole Miss quarterback is picked off throwing across the middle by Dan Jackson. UGA takes over inside the 25 yard line.
Captains and Coin Toss
11/09/2024 02:41:56 PMCaptains for Georgia: Mykel Williams, Dillon Bell, Jalon Walker, Ben Yurosek / Bulldogs win the toss and defer. Ole Miss will receive with UGA kicking right to left on your screen.
Couple of Updates from the Broadcast…
11/09/2024 02:36:58 PMListening in on the broadcast, couple of things Sean McDonough and Greg McElroy had to say: Ole Miss is going to be without BOTH leading rusher Henry Parrish Jr. (as expected) and Tre Harris (was listed as a game time decision). As for Georgia, the UGA staff believes this was the best week of practice Carson Beck has had this season.
Watching Pregame Warmups…
11/09/2024 02:22:58 PMCouple of things we’ve been keeping an eye on: Tate Ratledge is Georgia’s first right guard to go during drills. Micah Morris didn’t work with the second team. Watched him get pulled out of offensive line drills. Would appear that he’s a no-go. As for Trevor Etienne, no signs of him being slowed in the slightest. He was with the first team offense. Other thing of note, Smael Mondon was going through both drills and team work. He was with the second team defense. My gut says he doesn’t play today, especially on a wet playing surface.
Final Availability Report: Gametime Decisions for Couple of Key Players
11/09/2024 01:10:55 PMSmael Mondon and Micah Morris are listed as gametime decisions for Georgia. That would mark a return for Mondon who hasn’t played since late September against Alabama. Jordan Hall is not on there at all after he was probable earlier in the week. As for Ole Miss, Tre Harris, Matt Jones and Jayden Williams all fall into the same category.
DawgsHQ has Arrived!
11/09/2024 11:33:11 AMWe’ve got boots on the ground and it’s a wet one here in Oxford. Made a trip through The Grove and folks are definitely excited for this one. Told by some around town that Ole Miss is expecting a record crowd and hundreds of thousands flooding into Oxford. Weather, plus what you would imagine were some fun nights had on Friday, has made for a later arriving group of fans but they started to show up as we headed to the stadium.
