A third Georgia player is entering the transfer portal. On3’s Pete Nakos reports that senior forward RJ Godfrey is seeking a transfer. He joins junior guards Silas Demary and De’Shayne Montgomery as transfer defections for the Bulldogs since the 2024-2025 season ended.

Godfrey, the son of legendary Georgia linebacker Randall Godfrey, spent just one season in Athens. He played his first two years of college ball at Clemson. Mike White recruited him out of the transfer portal during the last cycle.

The North Gwinnett High School product started every game in his one season at Georgia. He averaged 6.4 points per game and 3.8 rebounds per game. He got off to a fast start with a double-double in his first game as a Bulldog and double-digit points in two of his first three. He went on to hit double figures just eight times on the season.

Godfrey helped the 2024-2025 version of Georgia basketball win 20 games in the regular season, becoming just the sixth program to accomplish such a feat. The Bulldogs went 8-10 in SEC play and that was no small feat. Many, including National College Basketball analysts, believe that this year’s SEC is the toughest league in the history of the sport.

When looking at the regular season, Godfrey and company played the most top-10 teams in the country. They also led the country in top-10 opponents on the road. Georgia made the NCAA tournament for the first time in 10 years but it did not fare well in post-season play. After winning those 20 regular-season games, Georgia lost its first game in the SEC tournament to Oklahoma. It was then blown out by No. 9-seed Gonzaga in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, a game that was played in Wichita, Kan.

Godfrey won’t be the only forward that the Bulldogs lose. Freshman sensation Asa Newell, a five-star prospect in the 2025 class, is expected to be a first-round pick in the NBA Draft.
