Georgia Freshman Report: Joenel Aguero makes game-changing play
Georgia took down Florida on Saturday by the score of 43-20. It was an overall team effort by the Bulldogs to step up for their injured star – tight end Brock Bowers – but one that had Kirby Smart and company plenty excited as they left EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville.
# 4 DB AJ Harris – Harris got in the game late on Saturday as Georgia emptied the bench on defense. He shared a tackle with fellow freshman Joenel Aguero and had a solo stop of Ricky Pearsall after a 19-yard gain.
# 5 LB Raylen Wilson – Wilson got in the game late but did not record a stat. He also played on special teams.
# 7 TE Lawson Luckie – Luckie was asked to play more snaps on Saturday than he had all season combined, stepping up in the absence of the injured Brock Bowers. Kirby Smart said that he was pleased with the performance but did note there were some missed assignments in run blocking.
# 8 DB Joenel Aguero – Agureo had one of the biggest plays of the day for Georgia, blocking the Florida punt that went out of the end zone for a safety in the second quarter. Late in the game, Aguero got in on defense and also recorded a tackle, sharing it with AJ Harris.
# 26 LB Sam M’Pemba – M’Pemba got in the game late but did not record a stat.
# 29 DL Gabe Harris – Harris had a pair of tackles on back to back plays in the fourth quarter. While Florida did pick up yardage on each, Harris’ tied with AJ Harris for the top tackle total among freshmen.
# 33 LB CJ Allen – After not playing on defense versus Vanderbilt, Allen was back in his previous role playing with the first team. He recorded one tackle, an assisted stop with Javon Bullard in the first quarter.
