Georgia garners more No. 1 votes and remains atop Coaches Poll
Georgia remains atop the college football world in the coaches poll once again this week, with the Bulldogs garnering 61 votes in Sunday’s release, up from 58 last week.
The Dawgs were able to hold steady thanks to a convincing performance on Saturday afternoon against the previously ranked (per the coaches poll) No. 19 Tennessee Volunteers, coming out on top in Knoxville 38-10.
Ohio State climbed into the No. 2 spot, though the Buckeyes are down to just one first-place vote, and Michigan fell one spot to No. 3, earning one first-place vote along the way. Both held three first-place votes last week.
Florida State, which lost starting quarterback Jordan Travis to a leg injury on Saturday, stayed at No. 4, with Washington, Oregon, Texas, Alabama, Louisville, and Missouri rounding out the top ten. The Tigers replaced Oregon State at No. 10 following the Beavers’ loss to Washington on Saturday night.
Tennessee, now 7-4 on the season and on a two-game losing streak, fell four spots to No. 23 this week following its home loss to Georgia.
Kirby Smart’s squad left nothing to chance on Saturday in the win, controlling the game almost entirely aside from an opening drive 75-yard rushing touchdown for the Volunteers.
From there, the Bulldogs were dominant, limiting Joe Milton to 147 yards on the day and squelching the Vols’ rushing attack for just 55 additional yards after the initial strike.
