Georgia getting a 'throwback' in elite CB commit Chris Peal
Charlotte (N.C.) Providence Day four-star cornerback Chris Peal has tweeted a total of 35 times. ‘Low key’ is a consistent way of describing the No. 75 overall prospect in the On300. Peal is now a Georgia commit.
What is Georgia getting in this low-key superstar?
‘Throwback’ is another term thrown out by Providence Day head coach Chad Grier. Peal rarely comes off the football field on Friday nights.
“He’s a first-class young man and more of a stoic throwback,” Grier said. “He’s not using social media for the recruiting hype. Chris is a worker. He’s strong, fast, and physical. All of the tools are there to be really successful. But above it all, he’s a really good kid.”
Grier remembers when Peal made his way to Providence Day. He still carried his reserved demeanor, but the quiet confidence hadn’t emerged yet.
Grier approached Peal’s family.
“He didn’t have a lot of confidence, to be honest with you,” Grier said. “His mom is wonderful. I talked with her and said, ‘do I have your permission to get into him a little bit.’ She said ‘get after him’. He responded. He’s really blossomed. He has the technical skills but he just works and he does it in a way that he doesn’t try and draw attention to himself. It’s going to be different around here without him. I’m going to miss him.”

Chris Peal has his eyes set on continuing his growth at Georgia
Peal did a lot of growing at Providence Day. That’s what he hopes for at the college level. Peal is still learning the cornerback position.
He’s been splitting time as a running back for much of his high school career. Peal is already diving into admitting what he doesn’t know.
“They’re getting somebody that is very competitive on and off the field in whatever I’m doing,” Peal said. “I’m going to be coachable. I’m willing to learn because I don’t know much about the position. I know I don’t know much about the position… Over the next few years, I want to mature on and off the field. I want to become a man.”
