Georgia kept its roll on the baseball diamond going on Tuesday night with a 13-6 win over West Georgia. The Bulldogs moved to 25-2 on the season.

The Bulldogs’ offense was once again the story. Nolan McCarthy was the tip of the spear on Tuesday night. He drove in a career high five runs while going 2-for-3.

Daniel Jackson launched two more home runs on Tuesday. Jackson drove in four runs.

The Bulldogs totaled 11 hits as a team. The Bulldogs’ offense ran out to a 9-0 lead before West Georgia climbed back into the game with a strong fourth inning. West Georgia cut into the Georgia lead a bit more in the top of the fifth inning.

Georgia’s offense answered the bell with two runs in the seventh inning. The Bulldogs added on in the bottom of the eighth inning. A triple from freshman Bryce Clavon and a monster home run for Devin Obee helped close the scoring for the night for Georgia.

Georgia’s offense was without the nation’s top two home run leaders, Ryland Zaborowski and Robbie Burnett. Both sat on Tuesday with illnesses. Johnson considered playing them on Tuesday but chose to hold off. They are both expected to be back on Friday.

“Robbie ate some bad food on the bus ride home, and Zabo did too,” Johnson told reporters. “Zabo’s didn’t hit him until a little later. We tried to sneak him in there tonight, and it’s one of those things, I had to step up and say, no, both you guys go get an IV and be ready for the weekend.”

Georgia has long list of arms at work

Georgia used Tuesday as a bullpen start. The Bulldogs started Tyler McLouglin, who pitched an inning. Georgia used 10 pitchers throughout the day.

Georgia threw Paul Farley, Eric Hammond, Lucas Morici, Collin Caldwell, Jordan Stephens, Davis Chastain, Alton Davis, DJ Radtke and Brian Zeldin to cover the nine innings of work on Tuesday.

Georgia’s pitchers allowed seven hits on the day.

Georgia head coach Wes Johnson got what he was looking for from the group on Tuesday.

“I was really excited,” Johnson said. “We had to get Zeldin back in there, I thought Davis Chastain looked good. I thought Hammond threw some good pitches tonight. Tyler obviously got us off to a really good start. All those guys need to get out, they didn’t get in this weekend. So it’s good to get them out there and get them in and get them going.”

Respecting the game

Johnson has preached ‘respecting the game’. Georgia did not have time to rest on their accomplishments from the weekend. That will be a theme for the Bulldogs the rest of the way.

“Great players, great teams, they have to learn to go to the next game, no matter what just happened,” Johnson told reporters on Tuesday. “We’re going to lose a tough one somewhere along the way. It’s how you just get up the next day. If you let that fester or you carry over too much of what happened into the weekend. That’s how you’ll sneak up and get beat… I really challenged our guys to get a day to respect the game. Come at it no matter who you’re playing, stay locked in from the first pitch and keep going.”

Georgia will have the next two days off. They will host No. 11 Auburn on Friday, Saturday and Sunday as they get back into SEC play.

The Tigers will come into Athens 4-2 in SEC play. This will be the third series in SEC play in which Georgia will be facing a ranked opponent. Georgia swept No. 13 Florida over the weekend in Gainesville.
