Kirby Smart provides some insight on Georgia QB Ryan Puglisi's growth

Georgia is working through a quarterback competition between Gunner Stockton and Ryan Puglisi this spring. Puglisi enrolled in January of 2024, suffering a knee/lower leg injury during spring practices. It caused him to miss last year’s G-Day game.
Puglisi redshirted in 2024 while Stockton served at Carson Beck‘s backup. Stockton was forced into action in the SEC Championship Game and helped lead Georgia to the title against Texas.
He then started the Sugar Bowl against Notre Dame in January. That has given Stockton the first bite at the number one spot. The Bulldogs have continued to hold the battle through the offseason and into spring drills that began on Tuesday.
Georgia head coach Kirby Smart joined 92.9’s ‘Steakhouse’ with DawgsHQ’s Rusty Mansell and Steak Shapiro where he addressed the young signal caller’s ability.

Kirby Smart is high on Ryan Puglisi’s recruitment thought process
Smart praised Puglisi for his steadiness during his recruitment.
“He’s a competitor he never flinched during the recruiting process,” Smart said. “We had another commitment at times. I forget the timelines but he never wavered. Those have been some of the best kids we’re recruited. The ones that say ‘I don’t care who else is coming, I don’t care who is there, I see the growth and development you’ve had at the quarterback position.’ He had a passion and energy about Georgia. He’s a really good baseball player, he’s got arm talent, size. He had great high school tape, he played in a good league up there. He’s a competitor. He’s come in and he flashed when he was on scout team. That’s traditionally what happens when you have a card and you don’t have a read and you just fire away. He made some good throws on the run and he’s got a strong arm. He does have a long way to go in terms of knowing exactly what we’re asking him to do to command the offense, the volume of the offense and he’s getting better at all those things.”
Georgia did not practice on Wednesday. The Bulldogs hosted NFL scouts in Athens for Pro Day ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft. The Bulldogs will hit the field again today. G-Day is scheduled for April 12 inside Sanford Stadium.
