Georgia offensive lineman Amarius Mims (65) is helped off the field after going down with an injury during the first half of a NCAA college football game against South Carolina in Athens, Ga., on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2023.

ATHENS, Ga. — It’s another week for the Georgia Bulldogs and more injury updates. With UGA starting preparation for UAB (1-2) on Monday, head coach Kirby Smart shared the latest on the availability of a couple key players continuing to battle injury.

OT Amarius Mims: Having started at right tackle each of the first three games, Mims exited in the first half before returning to the sideline with a boot on his left foot and on crutches. Update: “Mims ankle sprain was bad. He’ll have tight rope surgery on that … We don’t know how long that’ll be but he’ll be back.”

OT Austin Blaske: A part of Georgia’s offensive line rotation, Blaske has missed the last two games with a lower body injury. Update: “I think we’re going to get Blaske back today.”

RB Kendall Milton: Milton left the game in the second half on Saturday, and Smart was uncertain of exactly what his injury was after the game. Update: “Kendall had an MCL that he had before. Don’t know how significant it is, but we’ll find out today.”

RB Roderick Robinson: Robinson had one carry and went to the locker room afterwards. The freshman ball carrier was not asked about after the game. Update: “Roderick had a high ankle sprain. We’ll find out how he is.”

Smart also shared that defensive back Javon Bullard remains day to day battling an ankle sprain suffered against Ball State while wide receiver Ladd McConkey (back) is likely out again this week.

In total, 11 scholarship players were not dressed out on Saturday. Along with aforementioned Blaske and McConkey, Georgia was without the following players: linebacker Marvin Jones Jr (illness), tight end Pearce Spurlin (undisclosed), defensive lineman Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins (foot), tight end Lawson Luckie (ankle), running back Branson Robinson (knee), linebacker EJ Lightsey (shoulder), offensive lineman Josh Miller (undisclosed), cornerback Chris Peal (turf toe) and offensive lineman Kelton Smith (undisclosed).

Smart shared in his opening statement that Ron Courson told him it’s the longest injury list since he’s been here, but believes that it’s a trend across the entire country.

“That becomes a hurdle, and we’ve got to do a good job of overcoming that,” Smart said. “It’s on us as coaches to be resourceful.”

Kickoff time for Saturday at Sanford Stadium against UAB is set for 7:30 p.m. ET. Brian Custer, Rod Gilmore and Lauren Sisler will be on the call for ESPN2.
