ATHENS, Ga. — Kirby Smart’s Georgia Bulldogs are a banged up football team. They’ve got a bye week to get as healthy as possible before playing Alabama, but in the case of some, the injuries we’re talking about are longer term deals. Smart shared the latest of the health of his group Tuesday evening.

Smart opened his comment after practice telling reporters Georgia offensive lineman Tate Ratledge underwent ankle surgery. Ratledge also has a sprained MCL, and he’s not the only Bulldog battling health issues coming out of the Kentucky game. Carson Beck is also dealing with an injury, although much less serious. The second-year starter at quarterback appeared to come up favoring his right side after a run late in Saturday’s game. When asked about the status of his shoulder postgame, Beck told reporters he’d be “fine,” but added, “thankfully we have a bye week so we’ll see.”

“Carson’s fine,” Smart said, adding that Georgia has several players – Beck included in his non-throwing shoulder – dealing with AC joint sprains. The head coach didn’t seem to believe it was a serious injury that would cause the quarterback to miss any time.

The injuries sustained in the win over Kentucky aren’t the only ones either. Georgia came into the game with a limited number of defensive linemen, missing Warren Brinson (ankle), Jordan Hall (leg) and Mykel Williams (ankle). Both Brinson and Williams have been out the last two games, getting hurt against Clemson, while the injury to Hall occurred prior to the start of fall camp. All three seem to be trending in the right direction, and Smart is hopeful they’ll be good to go after the bye week.

“They’re all working to come back, doing the rehab process. Warren was out there working today. Mykel’s running. Jordan’s running. Hoping to get those guys back.”

George’s next official availability report will be shared the Wednesday prior to their game against Alabama. The Bulldogs and Crimson Tide do battle in Tuscaloosa on Saturday, September 28 at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
