Georgia’s impressive 31-17 win over Tennessee has vaulted it to No. 8 in the latest US LBM/USA Today coaches poll. The Volunteers fall to No. 11 after suffering their second loss of the season.

Oregon is No. 1 followed by Ohio State, Texas, Penn State, and Indiana to round out the top five. Notre Dame comes in at No. 6 and Alabama at No. 7. Ole Miss is behind Georgia at No. 9 despite beating the Bulldogs 28-10 eight days ago. Miami comes it a No. 10.

UGA’s two losses have come to top 10 teams and it has wins over No. 16 Clemson in addition to the Volunteers and the Longhorns. Georgia is the only team in the country with three top 20 wins.

Georgia fell behind 10-0 Saturday night as Tennessee grabbed a touchdown with its first possession and a field goal with it’s third. It was pretty much all Georgia from that point on. The Bulldogs scored touchdowns on hookups between Carson Beck and Oscar Delp on consecutive drives to take a 14-10 lead.

An answer came quickly from the Vols as Dylan Sampson ran it in from 27 yards out to take a 17-14 lead but Georgia evened it up with a field goal with just a few seconds left in the half.

The second half belonged to Beck and the Bulldogs. Georgia posted 14 points on three full possession in the second half, averaging seven yards per play. Meanwhile, Tennessee was held scoreless for the final two periods.

Our kids showed resiliency, I’m proud of them,” Smart said after the game. “Look, a week ago and a couple hours, we were dead and gone. People written us off. It’s just, it’s hard to play this league week in and week out on the road. We’ve accumulated a tremendous amount of injuries from the schedule we’ve had. And it’s not really going to get any easier. It’s a physical game. But when you play the gauntlet of what we played, it’s taken its toll. We had a lot of guys sitting on the sideline tonight that couldn’t play. But we also had a lot of guys that stepped up. And I think the way we practice has helped us grow some players who stepped up tonight and played big for us.”
