Why was Georgia conservative at Kentucky? WATCH instant thoughts

Georgia – Kentucky was a little cat and dawg fight, huh? Certainly more so than I think many believed it could be after the Wildcats dropped a home game to Vanderbilt last week.

But Kentucky did still have wheels on this vehicle after all, despite the early reports that they fell off.

The Cats moved the ball on Georgia pretty consistently throughout the night, even though they only had one touchdown to show for it.

Big Blue Nation earned it the hard way.

Georgia failed to convert a fourth-and-goal from Kentucky’s one yard line, and Will Levis led his cats 99 yards for a score.

Stetson Bennett threw an interception.

He also only threw 19 passes.

Strange games like this deserve discussion.

Regardless of how they happen, SEC road wins do, too.

Alright, I know Georgia – Kentucky was frustrating to watch

But. BUT.

Let’s highlight the positives, because I’m in that kind of mood.

Georgia went undefeated in the conference in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 1981-82. The Dawgs actually three-peated that accomplishment dating back to 1980.

Yes, this win was ugly. But take a step back and look at what happened from the big-picture level in this regular season.

These are special times to be a Georgia Bulldog.

A win next week over Georgia Tech guarantees more history: the first back-to-back undefeated regular seasons in Georgia football history.

Kirby Smart ain’t hangin’ his visor on that. There are more meaningful games ahead.

But it’s a lot to be proud of.

Georgia’s defense gave up a head-scratcher of a 99-yard Kentucky touchdown drive

On the flip-side of that nauseating coin, Kelee Ringo also snagged his second pick of the season on a key Kentucky redzone possession.

Will Levis had some eyeballs and a lot to gain in NFL Draft stock, and Georgia still held this team to six points on its home turf.

That isn’t to make excuses for the busts downfield, or for the offense’s inefficiency outside of Kenny McIntosh‘s career-high 143 rushing yards.

I’m just saying, this team’s defensive output should not be overlooked.

This unit is mean and it is violent.

Ultimately, Kirby Smart’s team once again has much to learn from a nail-biter SEC road game

We’ve seen how good this team can be, however.

Don’t let one phonebooth ballgame make you forget about Oregon, South Carolina and Tennessee.

This team can dominate.

And if road games are its achilles heel for domination, then good news.

That was the last one it has to play this season.

Other undefeated teams who escaped this weekend (TCU, Michigan and Ohio State), can also count their blessings on this wild and wacky night.

So at least Georgia wasn’t alone in the ‘well, that was close’ department.

A win. Is a win. Is a win.
