Georgia lands league-high on Coaches' All-SEC teams
The SEC coaches released their All-SEC teams on Tuesday, and Georgia was well represented. After landing nine players on the AP All-SEC teams yesterday, the Bulldogs had 12 on the two coaches teams including five first-teamers. Alabama also had 12 players with five first-teamers as well.
First Team
TE – Brock Bowers
OL – Warren McClendon
DL – Jalen Carter
DB – Christopher Smith
PK – Jack Podlesny
KOS – Jack Podlesny
Second Team
QB – Stetson Bennett
WR – Ladd McConkey
TE – Darnell Washington
C – Sedrick Van Pran
DL – Nazir Stackhouse
DB – Kelee Ringo
LS – William Mote
Bowers finished first on the team in receiving with 52 receptions, 728 yards and six touchdowns, all team highs. He was trailed shortly behind by McConkey who had 51 catches, 675 yards and five receiving scores. Both of them also added rushing touchdowns this season, three for Bowers and two more McConkey.
Washington, who was a second-team selection like McConkey, played a big part in both Georgia’s passing attack with 26 catches, 417 yards and two touchdowns and their blocking for a strong run game. On the season the Bulldogs rushed for 2,691 yards and 37 scores behind the likes of Washington, McClendon and Van Pran. McClendon and Van Pran are two parts of a Joe Moore Award finalist unit on the offensive line.
Calling the shots for the entire offense was the quarterback Bennett. A Heisman finalist, the sixth-year senior threw for 3,425 yards and 20 touchdowns, only throwing six interceptions and taking seven sacks on the season. He also added 184 yards – 257 yards if you don’t include the 73 yards lost in large part due to sacks – and seven touchdowns on the ground.
On the flip side of things are also several key cogs of one of the nation’s top defenses. The inclusion of Jalen Carter and Christopher Smith gives Georgia one representative on the line of scrimmage and another in the secondary. Nazir Stackhouse and Kelee Ringo also do the same on the second team. Carter has 7.0 tackles for loss in 11 games this season including 3.0 sacks, tied for a team-high. Meanwhile, Smith is fourth on the team in tackles with 50 stops. Ringo, tied for the team-high in interceptions with two, and Stackhouse, who has started all 13 games on the defensive line, also have been major contributors.

You can’t forget about the special teams too. Jack Podlesny’s selection makes sense and isn’t surprising one bit considering the success he’s had all season long. Twice was Podlesny named Special Teams Player of the Week, doing so in back to back weeks. Overall, he’s 23-of-26 on field goals, a perfect 61-for-61 on extra points and has had 73 of his 91 kickoffs either go for touchbacks or be fair caught. Mote has snapped for Georgia on punts this season and handled duties for placement kicking the last two games too.
Two players that were included in yesterday’s release but not today’s – including a first-teamer – were Broderick Jones and Jamon Dumas-Johnson. Jones was a first-team selection according to the AP.
SEC selections for individual awards and All-Freshman teams will be released later this week, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see Georgia well represented there either. The Bulldogs, who claimed the SEC Championship on Saturday with a 50-30 win over LSU, are the top-seed in the upcoming College Football Playoffs where they’ll take on No. 4 Ohio State in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl on December 31st in Atlanta.
