Georgia legacy Justice Haynes enters transfer portal, leaving Alabama
The son of Georgia great is seeking a transfer from an SEC foe. Alabama running back Justice Haynes, after two seasons in Tuscaloosa, has entered the transfer portal with three years to play two. It is unclear whether or not the Bulldogs will pursue.
Haynes, who spent most of his high school career at Blessed Trinity in Roswell, Ga. and finished up at Buford, chose the Crimson Tide over Georgia and Ohio State in the 2023 class. He was ranked as the nation’s No. 33 overall prospect per the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that includes all four websites that publish recruiting rankings. He was the No. 2 running back in the country and the No. 2 player in Georgia.
The former four-star prospect has appeared in 25 games over the past two seasons and had a much bigger role in his second season. Haynes carried the football 79 times for 448 yards and seven touchdowns, averaging 5.67 yards per carry.
Haynes’ father, Verron, is famous for his senior season at Georgia. In Mark Richt’s first season as the head coach, Georgia trailed Tennessee 24-20 in the final seconds of the fourth quarter when Verron’s name was called. He caught a game-winning touchdown from David Greene on a play that is known for it’s name, P44 Haynes, and Larry Munson’s Hobnail boot call.

More on the transfer portal…
The NCAA student-athlete transfer portal launched in 2018. It marked a change from when student-athletes had to get a release from their school to transfer to another and they could be limited as to where they transferred. The portal allows student athletes to simply notify their current school and its compliance department that they intend to move on to another program.
Last season, Georgia lost 21 scholarship players to the portal, watching several end up at power conference programs around the country. The Bulldogs did add to their talent however, as they’ve done before. Adding to the likes of Lawrence Cager, Tre McKitty, Derion Kendrick, Tykee Smith, Dominic Lovett and others that have joined the program in the past, UGA brought in Trevor Etienne, Colbie Young, London Humphreys, Ben Yurosek, Xzavier McLeod and others that have had an impact on the Bulldogs’ 2024 campaign.
