ATHENS, Ga. — A pair of Georgia defensive players are on the injury report heading into its top-15 matchup with Missouri on Saturday. Freshman linebacker CJ Allen went down with an injury late while safety Dan Jackson did not travel with team to Jacksonville. Kirby Smart provided updates on both during his weekly Monday press conference.

“CJ is day to day. He felt a tweak in his hamstring. Thought he was fine. We’ll find out more today,” Smart said on Allen.

“He’s dealing with a bursa, his knee has a bursa sac in there that’s been bothering him. Actually got infected, Vanderbilt game it happened while we were there. Didn’t find out until the morning. Didn’t get him Vanderbilt game last minute and then he wasn’t able to go last week,” Smart added on Jackson. “We’re hopeful to get him back this week to give us some extra depth in the secondary. He’s supposed to be able to do some stuff today for the first time. We’ll see how he does.”

Allen has appeared in all eight games so far this season, totaling 11 tackles. He had one on Saturday in the win over the Gators.

As for Jackson, missing the last two games, he’s seen the field in the other six. He had 12 tackles to his name including six in a start against UAB with Javon Bullard out. Jackson also has a forced fumble and an interception.

The two defensive players aren’t the only ones Georgia hopes to have back for the game. Offensive tackle Amarius Mims dressed out for the first time since undergoing ankle surgery in mid-September. While he did not play, the projected first rounder went through warmups and is getting closer it seems.

“Don’t really know. I talked to him a little bit before the game. He felt like he was close, but it wasn’t completely ready yet,” Smart said when asked how close Mims was to playing on Saturday. “We’ll see again when he gets another week of rehab. Monroe is getting better with these reps, and Truss is too.”

“He’s got be healthy enough to play and be the best available player to play,” he added on Monday. “He did extra work Friday, Saturday, yesterday. At the end of the day he’s got to be confident to go out there and play. He’s a lot closer to that today.”

In Mims’ absence, Georgia has relied on an offensive line featuring Xavier Truss at right tackle and Dylan Fairchild at left guard. Others like Micah Morris and Monroe Freeling have also rotated in.

Kickoff time for Saturday’s game is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on CBS. The top spot in the SEC East is on the line, and should Georgia win, it would have the ability to clinch a spot in the SEC Championship Game in its next outing against Ole Miss.
