Georgia Basketball officially announced the addition of VCU transfer Jalen DeLoach Saturday afternoon. Deloach told On3’s Joe Tipton of his decision earlier in the day, choosing to continue his basketball career in his home state.

A Savannah, Ga. native who spent time in high school at Gray Collegiate in Columbia, S.C. as well as Berkmar High School in Lilburn, Ga. and The Skill Academy in Atlanta, Ga., DeLoach appeared in 34 games this past season at VCU after appearing in 31 the year before. He started a single game as a freshman before starting all but two as a sophomore, upping his averages in all categories. In 24.5 minutes per game, DeLoach scored an average of 9.7 points and brought in 6.9 rebounds.

“I chose Georgia because I believe in the plan that Mike White and his staff have for me,” Deloach told On3’s Joe Tipton. “They recruited me the hardest throughout this whole process and I felt like it was home here. I’m ready to put Georgia basketball back on the map and make a big run in the NCAA tournament next year and also win a SEC championship.”

DeLoach scored in double-figures 19 times including a stretch of six straight in December. He did so again in four straight and five straight at the end of January and in February. He had a double-double on New Year’s Eve against La Salle, plus another four in the new year including one in the A-10 Championship Game against Dayton.

DeLoach’s older brother Kalen is a redshirt senior linebacker at Florida State, where he started all 13 games of the 2022 season. His older sister Taylor was a Big Ten champion in the long jump and 400-meter relay at Ohio State.

Georgia now has four open scholarships left on its roster for 2023-24. The Bulldogs bring back Jabri Abdur-Rahim, Jusaun Holt, Frank Anselem-Ibe, Justin Hill and Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe and signed Mari Jordan and Dylan James in the Class of 2023. Then, earlier this week, they added Illinois transfer RJ Melendez.

The Bulldogs went 16-16 in 2022-23 in their first year under the direction of Mike White. Georgia’s increase of 10 wins from 2021-22 was the second-largest among all Power 5 teams.
