Georgia OL Daniel Calhoun to miss rest of spring with foot injury

ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia has taken another hit on the interior of the offensive line. Kirby Smart made it known on Tuesday, his team’s seventh practice of the spring, that Daniel Calhoun will miss the next few weeks The redshirt freshman suffered an foot during one of the three practices last week.

“He’s gonna miss the rest of spring,” Smart said on Tuesday. “He’s got a foot injury that he’s dealing with. He was doing a great job competing for one of the starting guard spots. It’s not a major injury — it’s just one that’s gonna cost him the next three weeks to do that.

Calhoun entered this spring as more than just a contender for the starting right guard spot. He has long been considered the favorite since the 2024 season ended and NFL Draft decisions were made.

The 6-foot-6 325-pound Calhoun signed with Georgia in the 2024 class. He was the only one of seven linemen signed in that class to get second-team reps during spring practice and preseason camp. Kirby Smart told reporters earlier this spring that he wanted to see those second-year linemen to step up.

“We’ve kinda had this coming for a while, so it’s been an anticipation of how we can create depth in our signing classes,” Smart said to start spring practice. “We’ve got a lot of young offensive linemen in our signing classes who haven’t played who need to grow up and play.”

With Calhoun out, fellow 2024 signee Michael Uini has been getting the bulk of the first-team reps at right guard. Those two players have been alternating days at right guard through the early part of spring. The Bulldogs are also down a man at left guard with Marques Easley suspended indefinitely. He was arrested last week for reckless conduct. The charge stems from a March 17 car crash where he caused damage to three vehicles, including his own, a Walton EMC power box, and the stoop of an apartment/townhome.

The Bulldogs lost four offensive linemen to the 2025 NFL Draft. They also return four linemen with significant experience. Earnest Greene, Monroe Freeling, Micah Morris, and Drew Bobo all have at least two starts each. Greene has started 23 games in his career. He had been working at right tackle alongside Calhoun and Uini.
