A true Georgia stalwart, former Bulldogs offensive Jamaree Salyer is off the board in the 2022 NFL Draft, selected with the No. 195 overall pick by the Los Angeles Chargers in round sixth round.

From Atlanta’s Pace Academy, Salyer was ranked a five-star prospect in high school, the No. 14 overall player in the Class of 2018, as well as No. 1 interior lineman and No. 4 prospect in Georgia.

Salyer featured in 47 career games over the course of his time in Athens. That number includes 11 starts at left tackle in the 2021 championship season, including in the title game against the Alabama Crimson Tide. Over the course of his final two seasons with the Dawgs, Salyer played on an average of over 85-percent of offensive snaps.

Despite projecting as an interior lineman out of high school and with the likelihood he will play the role in the NFL, Salyer’s prolific skill and impeccable technique allowed him to slot into the all-important left tackle position starting in the 2020 season, taking over for high school teammate and former first-round Giants selection Andrew Thomas. While Salyer did take snaps on the interior, tackle was his primary role during his tenure.

In his senior season, Salyer was responsible for ten pancake blocks and surrendered no sacks to opposing defenses, including against vaunted pass rusher Aidan Hutchison of Michigan in the Orange Bowl.

Where he plays at the next level is of little concern now, as Salyer feels confident in his ability anywhere.

“I’ve gotten questions about all five positions,” Salyer told media members during his session at the NFL Combine on Thursday. “I know everybody likes to kind of put me in that box as an inside guy because of ‘lack of athleticism,’ but I’ve played in the SEC for four years, a good four years, and I think I’ve only given up two sacks to good players.”

“Anytime my number was called on to do my job, I was there. I did it. I competed at the highest level I could,” he continued. “I think it’s interesting that people like to say that, knock on my athleticism. But, it is what it is.”

Salyer becomes the 13th Bulldog selected, joining former teammates Travon Walker (Jaguars), Jordan Davis (Philadelphia Eagles), Quay Walker (Green Bay Packers), Devonte Wyatt (Green Bay Packers), Lewis Cine (Minnesota Vikings), George Pickens (Pittsburgh Steelers), James Cook (Buffalo Bills), Nakobe Dean (Phildelphia Eagles), Channing Tindall (Miami Dolphins), Zamir White (Las Vegas Raiders), Jake Camarda (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) and Justin Shaffer (Atlanta Falcons). Georgia is just one Bulldog being selected away from tying the all-time NFL record.
