Georgia OL Marques Easley arrested on misdemeanor charge stemming from March 17 crash

Georgia offensive lineman Marques Easley was arrested on Friday on one misdemeanor charge of reckless conduct. The Illinois native was booked into the Oconnee County jail at 4:35 p.m. ET and he was there for less than 40 minutes. He was released on $1,000 bond.

The charge stems from an incident that took place on March 17. Easley was the long moving vehicle in a crash that included two other automobiles and a Walton EMC power box. The car eventually came to rest after striking the stoop of the townhome at 1313 Redwood Lane in Watkinsville, Ga.

According to the report from the Georgia State Patrol, an officer responded to the accident in the Northeast portion of Oconee County, near the Athens-Clarke County line. Three cars were involved in the accident but Easley was the driver of the 2021 Dodge Challenger that caused all the damage. DawgsHQ originally reported that the challenger was a 2026 model.

The report states that Easley’s vehicle was traveling west on Redwood Lane in a “reckless disregard.” His car lost control with the back end twisting clockwise, leaving the road way. It first struck a Walton EMC power box. Then the driver’s side of Easley’s car hit the passenger side of the Hyundai, which then struck the Mercedes-Benz in a similar manner.

After hitting the Hyundai, Easley’s vehicle’s momentum took him into the front of 1313 Redwood Lane where it came to rest. The Georgia offensive linemen told officers that he was traveling around 25 to 30 miles per hour.

Further investigation into the crash determined that Easley’s account was not accurate. The tire marks and evidence suggest that Easley was “laying drag,” which, in the state of Georgia, means operating a vehicle in such a manner as to cause it to fishtail or move in a circular pattern (donuts).

According to the report, there were six total passengers in the vehicle. That includes Easley, who sustained minor injuries after the airbag was deployed. He was taken to Piedmont Athens Regional. None of the other five persons in the vehicle were injured.

Easley and sophomore wide receiver Nitro Tuggle were both suspended indefinitely by Georgia on Thursday. Tuggle was arrested by Athens-Clarke County Police for reckless driving and excessive speeding around 2 a.m. ET on Thursday morning.
