Georgia overcomes Florida surge: WATCH instant thoughts
Georgia’s win over Florida didn’t come easy. Well, easy for a 22-point win in a rivalry game, anyway. It’s all a matter of perspective.
And this one has a whole lot of context.
As soon as the game hit 0:00, Jake Rowe and I dished on our instant thoughts (as we do after every Georgia football game) on the DawgsHQ YouTube channel.

My first thought on Georgia – Florida: Brock Bowers became a certified Gator killer today
The amazing thing about Georgia’s offense – and not just in the Florida game – is just how dynamic the Dawgs tight end room can be.
One week, Darnell Washington is hurdling your team.
The next, it’s Brock Bowers pacing all Georgia receivers. Of course, a ghoulish, bobbling touchdown reception helps the ol’ stat sheet.
That highlight will haunt Florida long after Halloween is over.
I spoke with Brad Nessler earlier in the week ahead of CBS’s first Georgia game of the year.
I’m here to tell you, Brad Nessler knows what he’s talking about. But you already knew that.
He called Brock Bowers’s monster performance before it happened.
Second thing: Stetson Bennett just needs to raise his floor
I believe what we’re seeing from Stetson Bennett this season is what we’re gonna get the rest of the way.
Special, high, highs. And also, the potential for head-scratching, low lows.
Bennett demonstrated that in Jacksonville, where his 19-38 stat line with two touchdowns and two interceptions is the statistical equivalent of a metaphor.

Intel on potential head coaching moves
His receivers dropped some passes.
One of his picks wasn’t really his fault.
One of his picks really was.
Tennessee can, uh, score. A lot.
Georgia’s defense has a job to do. But Stetson Bennett must do his much more consistently good, if not consistently better.
A game ball for Vine Dooley
Of course, Georgia head coach Kirby Smart dedicated the game ball to the late Vince Dooley after back-to-back wins over Florida.
I can’t help but appreciate the symmetry in this timing for Georgia football history’s sake.
Vince Dooley made plenty of hay in Jacksonville against the Gators. You could almost say he made himself at home there.
His career as a head coach ended there, after one final victory over Michigan State in the 1989 Gator Bowl.
For Georgia football to win its first game in Jacksonville the day after his passing just felt like it had to happen, one way or another.
I never saw Vince Dooley coach a single game for Georgia.
But I saw everything he accomplished after that championship career.
Next week, the Dawgs will defend the turf that’s named in Vince Dooley’s honor.
They’ll need to play much, much better vs 8-0 (and likely #1 in the upcoming CFP Rankings) Tennessee than they did on Dooley’s other ‘home turf’ this weekend.
Not even Dooley saw a game of this magnitude Between the Hedges in his years as head coach and athletic director.
Time to Hunker Down.
