Georgia pitching flexes in series opening win over Auburn

Athens, Ga – Another day, another win for Georgia baseball. This time, the Bulldogs bested SEC foe Auburn 4-1 at Foley Field. It was the Bulldogs’ 26th win of the season.
Georgia moves to 6-1 in SEC play after a series win over Kentucky two weeks ago and sweeping Florida last weekend in Gainesville.
The Bulldogs leaned on their home run prowess once again to lead their offense. Georgia got home runs in the second and fourth innings to jump out to an early lead. A two-run home run by Devin Obee got things going. Daniel Jackson hit another two-run home run in the fourth.
That was all the offense Georgia needed on Friday night.
Pitching shines
Georgia got a gritty performance from starter Charlie Goldstein. The senior found himself in a few jams but found ways out of them and came away with a clean bill of health in the run department.
Goldstein went three innings, allowed three hits, four walks, and collected four strikeouts in 68 pitches and left with a 2-0 lead.

Brian Zeldin was brought in to close things out but was pulled after two quick walks. DJ Radtke got the save after allowing a hit that drove in Auburn’
Smith earned the win for Georgia on the night and earned the praise of his head coach.
“I’ll tell you what, we’ve been starving for it,” Johnson told reporters after the game. “I mean, you guys know, see what’s been going on with some of the pitching, and put the zeroes up as long as we did tonight against the best offense we’ve seen this year, was a credit to him. Even Charlie, Charlie put himself in some jams, but really executed off speed pitches, and then DJ obviously did what he did there to end the game. It was really, really nice to see Kolton do that. We’ve been needing that.”
