ATHENS, Ga. — Much has been made about Jalen Milroe this week. The Alabama quarterback is talented on the field and confident off of it. Comments he made last December after the Crimson Tide’s SEC Championship win over Georgia have since gone viral, and there’s no doubt, they’ve been heard by the Bulldogs.

“Yeah, I mean, we’re aware, for sure. We’re aware,” offensive lineman Dylan Fairchild told reporters on Tuesday when asked about Milroe saying UGA ‘looked defeated and didn’t want it anymore.’ The Alabama quarterback also made it known that he knew the Crimson Tide were in for a full four quarters while ‘Georgia didn’t believe in that.’

Fairchild made his comments Tuesday with a seriousness to his voice. It was obvious the comments struck a nerve with him. He was short in his response. As for Georgia defensive back Malaki Starks, he expanded on the emotions that came with the comments about the Bulldogs.

“I don’t try to pay too much attention to it. I don’t ever think that’s something that goes with the G is ‘being defeated.’ I don’t think that at all,” Starks said.

“I think it is what it is,” the All-American safety added. “We’re a very competitive defense. We believe that we’re very strong and physical and fast, and that’s how we play the game of football. You know, you come to Georgia to play defense, and I think that’s what it is.”

Georgia will have a chance to change the narrative, and maybe Milroe’s feelings about the Bulldogs, this Saturday in a rematch of the 27-24 SEC Championship battle that went the way of the Crimson Tide. Fairchild, Starks and company have put their head down and worked. Kirby Smart says it’s not hard to get motivate during a week like this.

“You don’t ever have to worry about it all this week, you know. You’ve got to be careful not to leave it all on the practice field. That’s probably the biggest thing is holding guys back and making sure that they don’t overdo it,” Smart said. “Spirited, get after it practice. As I said, you get these SEC rivalry games, it’s not a motivation issue.”

Kickoff time for Saturday’s top-5 showdown between the Bulldogs and Crimson Tide is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC. Georgia enters as a slight favorite over Alabama, the first time since 2007 the Crimson Tide has been an underdog at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
