The Dawgs rose three spots to No. 2 in the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll after their 10-3 win to open the season.

Georgia clearly impressed the nation’s coaches with the victory and even received one first-place vote.

While it may be the era of high flying offenses and scoring for style points, the Bulldogs were able to gain respect with a convincing defensive performance, featuring seven sacks as a unit and the lone touchdown of the night scored by Georgia safety Chris Smith.

In doing so, Georgia leapfrogged Ohio State and Oklahoma.

Clemson, meanwhile, fell to the No. 6 spot after the loss.

Now, Georgia trails only the Crimson Tide of Alabama for the top spot.

UPDATE 2:25 PM: Georgia has climbed to No. 2 in the AP Poll, receiving four first-place votes as well.
