Georgia QB JT Daniels dealing with upper-body injury
According to a source, Georgia quarterback JT Daniels is dealing with what is suspected to be an oblique strain as the Bulldogs prepare for their Week 2 matchup against UAB. DawgPost was the first to report this news.
While severe strains of this nature can require surgery, our source tells us that the severity in this situation is not such that surgery would be necessary for Daniels. His status for this weekend is yet to be determined.
This isn’t the first time that Daniels has dealt with injury during his two-year career in Athens. After transferring from Southern California, Daniels was sidelined for the first six outings of the 2020 season, continuing to rehab a torn ACL suffered during his second season at USC.
Upon returning, Daniels started the final four games for the Bulldogs in 2020, throwing for 1,231 yards and 10 touchdowns to just two interceptions on 80-of-119 passing. Saturday against Clemson, he threw for 135 yards on 22-of-30 passing with no touchdowns and an interception.

Backup QB situation
Kirby Smart was actually asked about what the backup quarterback situation looks like in Athens earlier this week. The sixth-year head coach stated that Carson Beck was No. 2 on the depth chart with Stetson Bennet and Brock Vandagriff behind him.
“Carson’s (Beck) been our number two quarterback,” Smart said. “He’s worked with the twos and has worked a lot there, taken a lot of reps. Stetson still gets some reps from time to time but he’s got a lot of bank reps so we ask him to do a lot of things mentally to be prepared and ready to go.”
Beck, a redshirt freshman, has yet to throw a pass in a collegiate game and only appeared in one. In the G-Day scrimmage, he completed 22 of 31 passes for 236 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Meanwhile, Bennett started five games for Georgia last season, throwing for 1,179 yards and eight touchdowns to six interceptions. Vandagriff is a true freshman and completed six of nine passes for 47 yards in the spring scrimmage.
