Georgia is now the consensus No. 1 team in the country, as was expected with the release of the Coaches Poll earlier today and the Dawgs being on top there. After taking over the top spot in the AP Poll last week, Georgia held on once again this week over Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan and Clemson, who round out the top five.

The Bulldogs received 59 votes for first place with Alabama getting three and Ohio State getting one. Elsewhere in the rankings are a few of Georgia’s opponents for the 2022 season with Kentucky (November 19th) ranked No. 8, Tennessee (November 5th) coming in at No. 11, Oregon (September 3rd, 49-3 W) up 10 spots to No. 15 this week and Florida (October 29th) in at No. 20. No teams that the Bulldogs are scheduled to play received any votes this week.

Georgia went on the road this week and won in dominant fashion over SEC East rival South Carolina. The Bulldogs were up 48-0 and gave up a last minute touchdown with their third team defense on the field, the first time that any of their opponents have gotten in the end zone this season. Stetson Bennett and Brock Bowers had a big day on the offensive end of the field, connecting for two touchdowns together while each adding a rushing score as well.

“I thought we challenged our guys to come on the road and play really physical. Attack from the get go. We talked about not treading water when you come in. You come in here to be the attacker and to hunt and not be hunted,” Georgia head coach Kirby Smart said after the 48-7 win. “I thought our kids bought into that. They wanted to get on it from the jump. They wanted to be physical from the jump. I thought we had some opportunistic stops on defense again and I thought our offense was explosive and executed well.  We worked on the perimeter and up inside. It makes it tough to defend when the quarterback when you run and do things like Stetson.”

“I was proud of the composure the kids showed in the opening drive of the second half,” he continued. “It meant a lot to me. We had a penalty and started backed up. All I wanted to see was come out in the second half and close the door. I thought they did that well. I thought our guys responded in the heat and played well in the heat. I appreciate how hard they worked to put us in the situation.”

Georgia is back home this week to take on Kent State at Sanford Stadium. Kickoff time is set for 12:00 p.m. ET, streaming on SEC Network+.
