ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia running back Kendall Milton is out for the game after going into the injury tent during the second quarter of the Bulldogs’ rivalry game against Auburn on Saturday. Milton has a groin injury per UGA sideline reporter DJ Shockley.

Prior to the injury, Milton had two carries for 13 yards with a long of eight. On the year he has 271 yards on 44 carries to come in as Georgia’s leading rusher on the season. He had two touchdowns in the season-opener against Oregon (one on the ground and one through the air) before going for a career-high 85 yards versus Samford the next week. Milton added another rushing touchdown in the win at South Carolina, a third versus Kent State and an important fourth one in the Bulldogs’ recent win over Missouri to make it a one-score game in the fourth quarter.

“Kendall’s done a great job,” Georgia head coach Kirby Smart said of Milton’s play through the first two games after he was battling a nagging hamstring injury early in the season. “He did what he did in the spring, running the ball with toughness, he’s very smart in terms up pickups and he’s improved as a receiver in the backfield. He’s done everything we’ve asked him to do at this point. Hard to tackle and physical.”

Georgia is already thin at the running back position with just four scholarship backs healthy going into the game. Andrew Paul was lost for the season during the preseason due to an ACL injury. That left Milton as well as Kenny McIntosh, Daijun Edwards, Branson Robinson and walk-on Cash Jones as the only available players in Dell McGee’s position group.

So far today, Georgia has rushed for 111 yards on 14 carries, and average of 7.9 per. McIntosh and Edwards have each punched it into the end zone while Robinson has been the most efficient in his touches with 32 yards on two carries including a 23-yarder.

Georgia has been without starting defensive lineman Jalen Carter, starting inside linebacker Smael Mondon and reserve outside linebacker Chaz Chambliss so far today due to injury. Carter and Chambliss are not dressed out at all while Mondon has not seen the field. The Bulldogs lead Auburn 14-0 in the second quarter. The game is ongoing on CBS.
