Georgia recognizes student-athletes for accomplishments in class

The University of Georgia and its athletics association announced on Monday a list of 355 student-athletes were named to the J. Reid Parker Director of Athletics Honor Roll for the fall semester. In order to qualify, a student-athlete must finish with a grade point average (GPA) above 3.00 with additional recognition possible for 3.5+ and 4.0 GPAs.

Georgia’s President Scholar honor recognizes students who earned a perfect 4.00 GPA while taking 14 or more hours. Of the 355 student-athletes to make Honor Roll, 19 earned Presidential Scholar status as well. An additional 24 student-athletes finished the semester with a 4.00 GPA but did not qualify for Presidential Scholar status with too few hours.

Equestrian: Austin Layer (Waynesboro, Ga.), Caitlin Lyons (Mead, Wash.), Aphrodite Papandreou (Houston, Texas), Sara Lewis (Washington, Ind.) and Spencer Toohill (Round Hill, Va.)

Women’s Golf: Isabella Holpfer (Vienna, Austria), Caterina Don (Pinerolo, Italy)

Soccer: Morgan Hart (Charlotte, N.C.), Madison Haugen (Cumming, Ga.), Abby Boyan (Spring Lake, N.J.)

On top of the 43 student-athletes who finished the fall semester with a perfect 4.0 GPA, 71 made the University’s Dean’s List earning a 3.50 GPA with 14 or more hours. Then, in the final category of distinction, 241 student-athletes were named to the J. Reid Parker Director of Athletics Honor Roll with a GPA ranging between 3.00 and 3.99. Those included in this category in the 3.50-3.99 range met the GPA standard for the University’s Dean’s List but did not take enough hours to qualify.

In July, 86 University of Georgia student athletes including one from eight different sports were named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll based on grades from the 2021 summer, 2021 fall and 2022 spring terms recognizing a GPA of 3.00 or above among other qualifications.
