Final standings for the 2022-23 LEARFIELD Director’s Cup were announced on Wednesday morning, and Georgia finished at No. 7 in the country. It’s the Bulldogs’ highest finish since 2005 and tied for fourth-best in school history.

While Stanford won its 26th title with three National Championships (men’s gymnastics, women’s rowing and women’s water polo), the SEC led the way on a conference level with eight institutions in the top 25. Florida, who was heavily carried by national championships in men’s golf and men’s outdoor track and field – plus a runner-up finish in the College World Series for baseball – led the way for the conference in fifth place overall. The Gators were followed by Tennessee (6th), Georgia (7th), LSU (9th), Alabama (12th), Arkansas (13th), Kentucky (18th) and Texas A&M (24th).

Georgia found success on the football field, winning a second straight National Championship there, along with several other sports including nine total in the top 10. That count also included men’s indoor track and field (No. 2), women’s tennis (No. 3), men’s tennis (No. 5), women’s indoor track and field (No. 5), equestrian (No. 6), men’s outdoor track and field (No. 7), softball (No. 9) and women’s outdoor track and field (No. 10).

Furthermore, seventeen sports finished in the top 20. That adds in the likes of men’s swimming and diving, women’s golf, men’s golf, women’s swimming and diving, soccer, volleyball, women’s basketball and gymnastics.

“This is a tremendous accomplishment by our entire athletic department,” J. Reid Parker Director of Athletics Josh Brooks shared in a statement on the successful finish. “I am so proud of our student-athletes, coaches, and teams, who had record-breaking accomplishments during the 2022-23 athletics season. From championships to our best-ever GPA, to community service and Scholar-Athlete recognitions, Bulldog student-athletes represented the best of the best in college athletics this season. I want to thank everyone who worked hard in achieving this goal.”

Georgia has now finished in the top 25 of the Director’s Cup and the U.S. News and World Reports Top Public Universities in each of the last 23 years. The Bulldogs are one of only nine departments nationwide to maintain a top-25 finish each year since 2000 joining Stanford, UCLA, Michigan, North Carolina, Florida, Ohio State, Texas, and USC.
