Georgia Football released updated salaries for two of its coordinators. New offensive coordinator Mike Bobo, promoted from within to replace Todd Monken from his position as an offensive analyst, and co-defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann both received raises. Bobo’s new salary comes in at an even $1 million while Schumann will make $1.9 million for the 2023 season.
Bobo worked closely with Monken last season in his role as analyst. In fact, Monken detailed the experience of working with him at several different points and credited a couple of play calls to the veteran offensive coordinator. Bobo spent 14 seasons in Athens previously as an assistant under Mark Richt, the latter half as the offensive coordinator before going on to be the head coach at Colorado State. He spent five years in Fort Collins before the Rams parted ways after the 2019 season. Bobo was then hired as offensive coordinator at South Carolina in 2020 and became the interim head coach when Will Muschamp was fired before the end of that season. Then, in 2021, Auburn hired Bobo as offensive coordinator but Bryan Harsin let him go at the end of the season, opening the door for him to return to UGA. Bobo directed Georgia’s highest scoring offense in 2014, a unit that averaged 41.3 points per game that season.
“I think Mike has grown a lot since he went out to Colorado State and the time he has spent here,” Georgia head coach Kirby Smart said on Tuesday. “I went against him at South Carolina, I went against him at Auburn, which gave me ultimate confidence that he would get this job done. We played them with probably the most talented defense I’ve been a part of and they went on a 16-play drive there at Auburn against us on the opening drive of the game. I just have a lot of confidence in his leadership skills and what he’ll be able to do offensively.”
As for Schumann, he’s been on staff at Georgia for seven seasons now and is entering his eighth. He came with Kirby Smart from Alabama where he worked as a defensive graduate assistant. Since arriving in Athens, Schumann has held the position of inside linebackers coach while being named co-defensive coordinator this past season to replace Dan Lanning. He shares the title with Will Muschamp. Schumann was sought after this offseason by the Philadelphia Eagles for their defensive coordinator job but ultimately returns to Georgia for at least another season. The Bulldogs allowed just 14.3 points per game and 296.7 yards per game game last season, both totals good for top 10 in the country. Schumann can also be credited for Georgia landing the several of the top linebackers while coaching a pair of Butkus Award winning players.

“I think when we had an opportunity to hire him as coordinator, I knew he was going to do a great job,” Smart said about Schumann after naming him co-coordinator last season. “Schumann was here at that time as well, and he and Schumann were really neck and neck the whole time and both took on responsibilities then. Dan would be the first to tell you he never would’ve had the success here he had if not for Glenn Schumann. That’s what made the transition easier when Dan left. I felt comfortable Glenn would be able to take it over along with Will. It’s always great when you have two guys that know the system and two guys that can share that responsibility.”
Georgia began spring practice on Tuesday of this week. The Bulldogs are on the practice field for their second of 15 sessions this spring, culminating on April 15th in Sanford Stadium with the G-Day spring scrimmage.
