Georgia remains unbeaten, ranked No. 1 in AP Poll
The newest edition of the AP Poll is out, and Georgia is at No. 1 once again. In fact, the Bulldogs added a first-place vote from last week, extending their lead over No. 2 Michigan just slightly. Ohio State, Florida State and Washington remain at 3-5, and the first change doesn’t come until No. 10 where UGA’s next opponent, Ole Miss, now finds itself.
Tennessee, who Georgia will play after Ole Miss, is tied for the poll’s biggest riser, up five spots to No. 14. Meanwhile, Missouri, who the Bulldogs beat on Saturday, drop two spots to No. 16. Those two squads will play next week as the Volunteers try to keep their small chances of winning the SEC East alive ahead of the UGA-UT matchup in Knoxville the next week. A win by the Tigers, or a UGA win in Athens later that day, would clinch the East for the Bulldogs.
Of course, both the AP and Coaches polls are obsolete at this point with the College Football Playoff rankings coming out on a weekly basis. Georgia was behind top-ranked Ohio State in last week’s initial drop, joined by Michigan (No. 3) and Florida State (No. 4) in the field of four. Undefeated Washington was the first team out, followed by fellow Pac-12 squad Oregon at No. 6.

As for this week’s matchup, Georgia against Ole Miss, it’s a top-10 matchup no matter how you look at it. The Rebels are the consensus No. 10 team currently according to the AP, Coaches and College Football Playoff rankings. Led by quarterback Jaxson Dart, running back Quinshon Judkins and three of the SEC’s top 11 receivers (Tre Harris, Jordan Watkins and Dayton Wade), Ole Miss comes to town at 8-1 with a small chance still of winning the SEC West.
“Got a great team. I’ll get to work on them tomorrow,” Georgia head coach Kirby Smart said postgame. “Lot of respect for what Lane’s done and built there. He’s a tremendous offensive mind. He’s gone out and they’re playing good defense now too. It’ll be a hell of a matchup because they’ve got a really good football team.”
