Georgia sitting pretty at No. 1, regaining confidence of AP Poll voters
Georgia’s win streak hit 23 on Saturday night with a 51-13 victory over Kentucky. On Sunday afternoon, the stretch of AP Polls on top was extended to 17 with the Bulldogs once again coming in ranked at No. 1.
UGA received 50 of 63 possible first-place votes, a 15-ballot increase from last week when the Bulldogs lost 20 of their first-place votes from Week 5. Michigan (11), Ohio State (1) and Florida State (1) are the other teams receiving votes for the top spot.
Speaking of the Wolverines, Buckeyes and Seminoles, that trio comes in just behind Georgia at Nos. 2, 3 and 4. Oklahoma, who jumped up seven spots after an upset victory over Texas, rounds out the top 5 while the Longhorns drop six places from their previous No. 3 ranking.
Kentucky remains in the top 25 after the loss to Georgia, dropping four spots to No. 24. As for other opponents on Georgia’s schedule, Ole Miss (No. 13) and Tennessee (No. 19) give the Bulldogs a pair of top-20 teams still to come. Missouri, who was ranked last week but lost to LSU, is the first team out in terms of others receiving votes.

The Bulldogs also have the longest active streak of being ranked in the top 10 at 40 weeks in a row, 39 of which have been in the top 5. Michigan at 34 and 22 are second in each of those categories.
Georgia’s next outing will be on the road. In fact, the Bulldogs won’t take the field at Sanford Stadium for almost another month, doing so the next time on November 4th against Missouri. Between now and then is a trip to Vanderbilt (Oct. 14), a bye week and a neutral-site contest against Florida (Oct. 28).
Kickoff time for Saturday’s contest in Nashville versus Vanderbilt is set for 12:00 p.m. ET, 11:00 a.m. locally, on CBS.
