Georgia Softball to host NCAA Tournament regional in Athens
Georgia Softball is going to start it’s Road to OKC in the Classic City. The Bulldogs will be hosting an NCAA Tournament Regional in Athens for the second straight season as UGA makes its 22nd consecutive appearance in the postseason. Georgia will play UNC Wilmington Friday at 5:30 p.m. ET on ESPN+ with Liberty and Charlotte getting action underway earlier in the day at Jack Turner Stadium.
The winner of the Athens Regional will advance to play the winner of the regional hosted by UCLA. The Bruins are joined in Los Angeles by Virginia Tech, San Diego State and Grand Canyon, and should they win, the Super Regional would be in Los Angeles – regardless of who advances out of Athens.
Georgia, 39-16 on the season, finished seventh in the SEC with a 12-12 record. The Bulldogs were at one point ranked as high as No. 3 in the nation with a 28-4 mark before falling some down the stretch. UGA would advance out of the opening round at the SEC Tournament with a thrilling 14-inning win over Auburn before being knocked out by arch rival Florida in the quarterfinals.
A veteran-led squad, Georgia saw three players named to the All-SEC team. Seniors Jayda Kearney and Sara Mosley earned First-Team honors while junior Dallis Goodnight found herself on the Second-Team. Kearney leads a Georgia team that ranked top 10 in the nation in home runs with 19 while Mosley added 17 of her own.

“I’m really proud of these three,” head coach Tony Baldwin said. “Sara and Jayda have been good players and have experienced a high level of success in this conference for several years now. That is a tough task and a great accomplishment. I’m proud of them both and happy for them to be recognized.
“Dallis has worked so hard to grow her game, and it has really shown. She is a great competitor, and I’m happy for her to be recognized for the season that she has put together.”
Last season, Georgia advanced out of the Athens Regional before falling in two games at Florida State. The Bulldogs last made the College World Series in 2021, one of the program’s five all-time appearances (2009, 2010, 2016, 2018, 2021). UGA has made it out of the opening weekend 12 times.
