Georgia clinched a .500 or better record in the SEC on Sunday with a 4-2 win over Missouri, a team that has yet to win a game in the league during the 2025 season. It’s the Bulldogs sixth straight win and it completes a perfect 4-0 week for Wes Johnson’s crew.

Bulldog starting pitcher Leighton Finley went 7.1 innings without giving up an earned run but he got a no decision after his leadoff walk in the eighth came around to score and tie the game at two. Alton Davis got the win and Zach Harris came on in the ninth to pick up his second save in as many nights.

Missouri led Georgia in all three games over the weekend but scored just two runs in each contest. UGA won Friday night’s game by a score of 9-2 and then again on Saturday by a score of 5-2.

The Tigers grabbed a 1-0 lead on Sunday and the Bulldogs’ struggles with runners in scoring position kept the home team in it the entire way. Out of the 16 at bats with runners in scoring position, Georgia had just three hits..

One of those came in the top of the fifth to give Georgia its first lead of the day. Nolan McCarthy reached base on an E5 with one out to get the rally started. Slate Alford followed with a double into the right-center-field gap to put runners on second and third with one out. Robbie Alford strolled to the dish and singled up the middle to score both runners and stake Georgia to a 2-1 lead.

That held up until the eighth when Finley walked the leadoff batter, who was moved to second via a sacrifice bunt. That chased the Georgia starter. Brian Zeldin came on in relief and gave up an infield single to move the runner to third. Two-hole hitter Pierre Seals delivered a sacrifice fly to tie the game at two.

The game didn’t stay knotted up for long as Alford came up big once again. Henry Hunter walked to lead off the inning and McCarthy followed with a strikeout. Alford stepped to the plate and delivered a two-run blast to give Georgia a 4-2 lead.

Harris came on in the ninth and gave up a one-out double but stranded him right there to end it. Georgia’s overall record now sits at 39-11 and it is 15-9 in the SEC with six games left to play. The Bulldogs are done with mid-week games in 2025.

They’ll travel to Alabama for a three-game set next weekend. The Crimson Tide are ranked No. 18 per D1Baseball. Georgia will then return home for the final series of the regular season to host Texas A&M.
