Georgia taken down by Oklahoma 81-75 in SEC tournament

Georgia saw it’s win streak snapped at four in the first round of the SEC tournament late Wednesday night. The Bulldogs fell to Oklahoma 81-75 falling to 20-12 on the season. UGA will now await it’s NCAA tournament seed on Sunday.
UGA got 24 points out of sophomore guard Silas Demary and 21 more out of freshman forward Asa Newell, who completed with double-double with 17 rebounds. Blue Cain pitched in with 17 points, four rebounds and five assists but it wasn’t enough to overcome Oklahoma’s hot shooting and 29 points from Jeremiah Fears.
The Sooners hit 10 of 18 three-point attempts in the first half and took a 43-39 lead into the break. Georgia charged out of halftime and took the lead less than three minutes in on a Demary three pointer. The Bulldogs pushed that lead out to six points two different times with the last coming with 8:26 left in the game.
From that point on, Oklahoma took control. The Sooners went on a 16-0 run to grab a 10-point lead. Georgia had a couple of opportunities in the final minutes to pull closer but turnovers and poor defensive rebounding thwarted any chance.

The biggest miscue was a back-court violation on a wild pass from Demary to Cain with 30 seconds left in the game. Georgia was trailing by five at the time with a chance to cut the game to one score with a basket.
The Sooners likely needed this game to get into the NCAA tournament while Georgia is comfortably in the field. Some projections have the Bulldogs as a No. 9 seed and some view the Bulldogs as a No. 10 seed. The NCAA tournament field will be announced on Sunday.
