Georgia had it’s 17-game win-streak snapped Saturday at the hands of Kentucky in a 10-7 loss but it bounced back on Sunday. The Bulldogs grabbed a 17-10 win to move their record to 21-2 on the season and 2-1 in the SEC. UGA took the first game of the series on Friday night by a score of 12-6.

Bulldog starting pitching struggled early once again on Sunday. Leighton Finley got the start and gave up two dingers in the first inning, a two-run shot to Luke Lawrence and a solo shot to Cole Hage, before recording an out. Georgia was in a 3-0 before it got a chance to hit but Robbie Burnett cut into the lead with his 11th home run of the season, a solo shot in the top of the first.

Kentucky got that run back and took a 4-1 lead in the top of the 2nd and Georgia did the same in its half of the season on a solo home run from Kolby Branch. After Brian Curley tossed a scoreless third, the offense put together a monster inning.

Center fielder Nolan McCarthy drove in two with a bases-loaded single to tie the game at four. Devin Obee followed with a single to center that drove in one to give Georgia its first lead of the game at 5-4. Branch later walked to load the basis and Slate Alford did the same to drive in one and put the Bulldogs up 6-4.

Then Burnett stepped to the plate and delivered a big blow. He smacked a well-placed double to right-center field and it cleared the bases. Burnett slid into second with three more RBI to his credit and Georgia had a 9-4 lead.

Kentucky got two more in the top of the fourth to cut the lead to 9-6. Georgia tacked one on in its half of the fourth on a solo blast from Henry Hunter to make it 10-6.

The Wildcats got two in the fith and two more in the sixth to tie the game at 10. Georgia responded in its half of the sixth inning, breaking the tie and taking control of the game. The Bulldogs plated five runs in that frame thanks in large part to a Kentucky error and two more bases-loaded walks.

The scoring was wrapped up in the bottom of the seventh when Hunter drilled his second home run of the day. It was an opposite-field two-run shot, his fourth dinger of the series. Brian Zeldin got the win after 3.2 innings of two-run ball. He gave way to Eric Hammond with two outs in the ninth.

The Bulldogs will get some rest before they again. There’s no mid-week opponent before Georgia makes the trip down to Gainesville to take on Florida. The Gators, ranked No. 7 in the latest D1 Baseball rankings, lost all three of their SEC-opening series at Tennessee this weekend.
