Georgia took Mykel Williams from 5-star to 'pro'

Mykel Williams was everything an elite high prospect is supposed to be. He walked out of Hardway High School as a top 10 ranked prospect across the recruiting industry.
He started at Georgia day one. Williams has been a key piece of Georgia’s defense for three years. That alone is not enough to be a professional football player.
Williams admits Georgia’s guidance over the last three years helped him get to his pro day with a bright future ahead and a draft prognosis of being a top half of the first round draft pick.
Georgia has had success sending players to the NFL under Kirby Smart. Williams heard that pitch coming into college.
Those future NFL players taught Williams the ropes. It was up to him to do things that may have been hard or uncomfortable over his three years in Athens.
“Really it was learning from the older guys,” Williams said. “Them being like ‘yeah, this is what it is, you just have to get through it’. When we were doing things that I didn’t agree with as a young guy, stuff that I thought was stupid, that’s where it came from. That’s where you have to just do it, it’s part of the job. You have to be a pro. You have to put your suit on and walk across the street.”
Georgia kept its promise to Mykel Williams
When Williams committed (flipped from USC) to Georgia way back on Oct. 20, 2021, he saw the vision of what he could be at Georgia.

“Georgia is dominant,” Williams told On3’s Chad Simmons. “They have shown me what they have been working to build under coach Smart. I see what they are doing as a team, I can fit in, and Georgia is a dominant team.”
Williams got a championship ring. He grew as a player. He feels he’s ready to be a keg cog in some NFL franchise’s future.
“100 percent (they kept that promise),” Williams said. “It’s how the system is and how we run things here at Georgia. You’ve got no choice but to become a pro out of this because of the stuff we do and all of the things that you’re required to do and be on top of. I feel like it developed me in that way.”
News and notes from Pro Day
Williams has already met with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Atlanta Falcons are also among the teams that he has had early conversations with.
Williams will take part in the same private workout at Georgia that Jalon Walker will on April 17. Williams did not work out at the NFL Combine a few weeks ago, but did run his 40-yard dash clocking in with a 4.71 unofficially.
He is hoping to get a little healthier over the next few weeks for that workout.
“It’s to work more laterally and do some change of direction type stuff,” Williams said.
