Georgia vs Kent State: what Munson would've worried about

It’s Friday of Georgia vs Kent State week and it finally feels like a real fall Friday. At least that’s the vibe here in Athens, Ga.

Also known as The Classic City.

Also known as God’s Country.

Step outside if you haven’t already. Take a breath of fresh air, and definitely don’t think about your stock portfolio.

Then come back inside and read this.

Remember how the late Larry Munson used to concern himself about the most pessimistic of details?

He could always talk me into doubting the outcome of a sure blowout as he ran through his notes in the Georgia Bulldogs pregame show with Scott Howard, Hondo Williamson and of course, Loran Smith.

Maybe you still do this to yourself. Kirby Smart is a disciple, as well.

As we said on this week’s Live Wednesday edition of The Georgia Show, Kirby Smart has the Vince Dooley playbook nailed down, too.

Meanwhile, Georgia is a six-touchdown favorite.

Here’s what Munson would’ve thought before placing his bets on the Golden Flashes.

Read it in his voice if you’d like. It’s all respect for one of my Georgia and broadcasting heroes.

Six touchdowns seems like a lot, you guys

The last time we played one of these teams you want to call a ‘cupcake,’ there wasn’t much frosting on the thing.

We only scored two touchdowns against Samford.

And we’re supposed to beat Kent State by six touchdowns? I didn’t get the best marks in math but I know this just does not add up.

Have you seen the teams these guys have played? I mean my God

Yeah I know they lost at Washington, 45-20. But that damp Seattle air can be difficult for people who aren’t used to it. It’s musty like a cellar, and it really sticks to your lungs.

And the Sooners took it to their whatchamacallits pretty good, 33-3. But of course Oklahoma is infamous for its dust.

And those are top-25 teams you guys.

Now they know how to play the big schools. They’ve gotten more experience playing against top-25 teams than we do.

If Old Lady Luck decides to show these guys a little more attention than she shows us, who knows what might happen.

And then the real thing that bothers me is all this Heisman attention and Georgia football love

Stetson Bennett and Brock Bowers are now Heisman media darlings.

I wish they’d never seen them play. You know what starts to happen when you get all this Heisman attention.

Inevitably something bad will happen.

I can’t control it. I don’t make the rules. But it’s just how this thing works you know.

And now our injuries are stacking up like a medic’s tent on a Civil War battlefield

Big Jalen Carter’s nursing that ankle.

A.D. Mitchell is, too.

We have more ankle problems than a disco floor you guys, and I don’t feel like dancin’.

Some people think they don’t need to play. But that’s the kind of attitude that gets you beat. Coach Smart has been all over this thing this week, but no one seems to want to listen.

We could be heading toward a real snake pit here. I just don’t know.
